I will say, though, that “queer culture” IS very sex-centric by virtue of a few factors:The one thing that brings us all together - our sexual orientation and gender identity - weighs conversation heavily in favour of those two factors.

       @theRICHARDexp @RiversideBryan @gaypharm @mybarkingdogs We’ve also had short timeline in which we’ve been able to operate openly in North America and Europe - this suppressed a lot of other aspects of culture or prevented them from developing in the first place. An entire generation of queer people were decimated by HIV/AIDS. So a lot of what developed previously was also lost because there were very few people left to transmit them.

       @theRICHARDexp @RiversideBryan @gaypharm @mybarkingdogs I think this “immature” stage of cultural development is also seen in areas outside of sex:  the heavy reliance on aspects of popular culture as a touchstone, for example.
