Current mood is "polar bear fighting an American submarine."

@lynnesbian These people live for the moment that someone tells them to fuck off and closes a door on them.

@alex Trump declared the right-wing opposition party that sat the election out to be the legitimate winners and Guaido has sworn himself in. The US and Brazil are now openly planning to support him because Trump and Bolsonaro are fascists. American liberals are falling in line with that because they need socialism to fail if it isn't done by capitalist-friendly white people and Venezuela has massive petroleum reserves.

@mirzaba Characters who have been IP that long concretely representing *anything* gets weird IMO. It's pretty clear what Superman's original creators and intent were, but unfortunately that's been superceded by meta-presence. Same for a bunch of the freshly-post-WWII Marvel stuff.

@mirzaba Like... you can't do anything with it without current infrastructure, most of the server farms are in different countries, and it's only useful because of an exchange rate with state currency. At least those gold dorks were talking about physical material that you can actually hoard in a physical space.

Right-wingers have been doing this shit since Rush Limbaugh and his gnashing fans got a doctor murdered. YouTube and similar platforms just added the algorithmic muscle to shotgun it out to younger people and make it magnitudes more dangerous. This is what they are. Always. At best, they're the kind of irresponsible dipshits who play with guns until they shoot someone, then act shocked. In general, they have a knowing, rotten little smile inside them every time they see a mosque or Black church or gay club or clinic shot up.

@Thighs Putting up with this was a mistake in the '90s and continuing to do so though the internet era has been demonstrably catastrophic.

The people who own the nearest shopping center jacked the rent up and pushed the farmer's market store out, so the closest place to get actual food is now a 40-minute walk away. Awesome.

@shel Pretty sure the property owners are deliberately strangling successful businesses because they still think they can get it re-zoned for high-density condos. (It's right next to the middle and high schools.)

@shel Welcome The real estate market around here has always been ludicrous and based on the idea of everyone just hopping in their minivans and driving off into the sunset to Costco. There was some wild scheme to move the schools to this remote area and replace them with high-density "affordable" housing for "veterans and teachers" which I assume meant guarantee of a dozen cheap apartments and then expensive-ass condos.

@shel They're also paving over all the stuff the plebs need to live downtown and replacing it with filing cabinets for tech workers, who then get on the Google bus to Google, to work at Google. No more Dollar Generals.

I bet the goblins behind Uber and Lyft are reeeeeeeeeeeally hoping people don't go back and study the Montgomery Bus boycott and think "hey, this would be even easier now that we all have cell phones."

@interneteh Large cities are good at mollifying people with cosmopolitan liberalism, while other areas of the US are so heinously neglected that they get disillusioned and radicalized much faster and more decisively.

@interneteh This is also why regional DSA chapters are good at actual activism and good places to network, while the national org tends to fuck up and be indecisive in my experience.
