@Paradox McDonald's 2022 gross profit was about 50% on average. If you go by the $2 4 piece mcnugget, that's 25c per nugget, so they'd go from making $1 profit to 75c profit. So they wouldn't lose any money, but would lose approx 25% profit

Genuinely considering making my work desk monitor setup just a single CRT monitor inside a hutch like a late 90's home office setup at this point. Current setup is two monitors for work and one for not-work PC which can swap to all three for when not working, and honestly? It might be too much screen real estate. I think a nice single 1600x1200 canvas would be enough for what I do, and would probably do me good in terms of not feeling overly consumed by tech every day.

More restaurants should support ordering by fax. I want to be able to call a number and have it send a fax back with your menu. I check off items I want with my name on it, and then fax it back to you. Then I go to the restaurant and pick up my order and pay.Heck, if you're feeling super fancy you could even offer delivery by putting an address field on the sheet. I'll pay cash on arrival.

@Paradox depending on line conditions you're looking at about 30 seconds to a minute per page, and I'm assuming a single page menu. Including dial time and line negotiating it almost never takes more than 3 minutes to send a page for me.I'm not against apps/website ordering per se, I just like the idea of not needing internet access to order food, and faxing an image of a menu seems like it'd be a lot less ambiguous than a phonecall!

@Paradox yeah, fax is a black and white image transfer the quality is pretty okay for like, text documents / hand writing, but it's 1 bit (no gray) so not great for photos

@Paradox also agregate ordering apps like grubhub/uber eats/doordash/etc almost always inflate prices compared to in-store / own website pricing even for pickup. So you're really sorta stuck hoping the place has their own website (usually fine but sometimes horrifyingly bad, also payment processing sometimes is just submitting a credit card number in an input box that goes to (???) If not you're stuck with either phone ordering or going in person and waitng 20+ min for your food

@Paradox fax ordering btw is something that used to be more popular, at least in my home town growing up the pizza places and chinese takeout restaurants had fax machines, and they'd give you a menu with your order for next time and it had little line items for writing out / faxing it in

@Paradox We were at our last house for just under 4 years (The owner decided to sell it out from under us while we were renting it), this resulted in a semi-rushed move, and all the things that come from not proper planning

@Paradox new owner is a college student who's gonna live in it himself.Yeah we had notice but the main problem was trying to find a new place in this market at a price that sort of wasn't a super rip off. It took about two months to find this place and we cut it really close, all things considered.

@Paradox also they let us know the place was going up for sale in February (our lease was valid up til July 31st) and on average once a week they had a showing, random times of day strangers just wandering through the house while we were trying to, yknow, live. They also had open houses, random inspections, the whole 9 yards. All with 24-36 hours notice. We've been under constant stress not being able to, for example, enjoy a weekend in peace.
