@futurebird first thing that came to mind was the Trautonium, an old synthesizer that used a metal wire to make the tone. Record the wavelength of the wire running through the suit to measure the length. It's only kind of crazy.

@futurebird I am in the company of our newborn (4 weeks old). I'm very close to the new baby experience, so obviously my perspective is skewed, but it's been immediately and irrevocably life changing. I'd support that choice for anyone with the inclination.

@futurebird it's interesting because a lot of what you're saying in this thread are a part of Marx's critique of capitalism.Monopoly, the dissolution of social institutions into the money relation, the contradictory impact on innovation, and the totalizing of the mode of production that makes lemonade stand analogous to prison labor. "The problem is capitalism" is a shorthand, but when you go to define and describe the problems, you end up in the same place.

@futurebird I also think the other side of it, what might be called critical ignoring, has potential. There's a huge amount of media being made and circulated vehemently, and being intentional about what you don't give your attention to is as important as what you do.

@futurebird a driving cap or ivy cap might work. A trapper hat would certainly be warm but it might not work well for the city. A cloche might do the trick.

@futurebird years ago we decided not to buy from Amazon. At first it was a quality issue - there was no good way to guess the quality of something given all the different listings. Now it's a matter of principle - we don't need to buy everything we can imagine wanting.

@futurebird I'd say it's better than accidentally wearing red with a furry shako.
