@BitterFleabane it’s bizzaro world for sure. One of my best friends was just like “I have thoughts about it but I don’t feel comfortable talking about that” when I asked her thoughts about TWAW, if she actually believed that as a lesbian. Because that would make her not intersectional enough. 🤨 As if there are already thought police listening in on our private offline convos who will out her for wrong think. And in academia I’m sure it’s 10x worse, you absolutely can’t say anything that goes against what is True and Right because Science. Which is really depressing, questioning and discussing different opinions used to be valued in higher education, I think.

I VERY quickly realized that porn was not useful in a healthy relationship. It is weird bc the sex positive movement started out just being like “women should enjoy having sex, sex can be an important/healthy part of life, women who enjoy having sex don’t deserve to be called derogatory labels, harassed, raped, etc.” then quickly turned into people acting like it’s NBD if you catch your 7yo watching porn, you should just explain it’s a “fantasy” but otherwise not really worry about it because it’s TotALLy HeALthY and NorMaL! And all fantasies are totally OK of course! Wouldn’t want to kink shame your 3rd grader. (This example from an actual conversation in a left-leaning/secular homeschool group.)

I think I was just kicked out of a parenting group for pointing out that everyone who makes milk has breast tissue and mammary glands, so breastfeeding is an inclusive term. Seriously saw the term “bodyfeeding” on that thread. Wth is wrong with these people?

@Ismat this conversation is very weird and I’m trying to figure it out. Personally I’m OK with only allowing women and children as refugees, because they have so much to lose right now and because men are very much so higher risk. But forcing women to be totally cut off from their male relatives, not allowing them the same rights as other immigrants, it’s barbaric and cruel and totally unnecessary.

@Sycaid @Haru_Okumura @Furball @Ismat @Jennifer_Lee @virginiawolf I personally have a good Afghani friend whose mother left with her and her sister while her father stayed behind to fight the Taliban. He died fighting. I think many parents would prefer to be separated despite their love for each other, if it meant their children would be safer.

Made the mistake of going on til too for like 5 minutes and already came across a mom filming her 3 yo asking him about gender identity. Basically telling him that if he dresses like a girl he would identify as she, but he likes dressing like a boy so he identifies as he. 🤯 ISN’T THIS THE REGRESSIVE BS WE’VE BEEN TRYING TO END FOR YEARS???!? Captioned with “it’s easy to be nice 🥰”Confusing your kid and teaching them SEXISM is not nice, sorry.

How can we communicate to other women than identifying as a woman does NOT mean they have to identify with being a sex object, passive, or abused? I am seeing a lot of women identifying as queer but only because they want to go by they/them pronouns. And usually the rationale seems to center around past abuse by men and not wanting to be viewed as a sex object. Recent famous example is Demi Lovato, but I have friends who’ve done this as well.

It’s hard work and you’re an amazing goddess!” In a group about BREASTFEEDING Without a bunch women chiming in like “hey there! Friendly reminder to use inclusive language! Maybe try `Hey people! It’s amazing that you are body feeding another human! Or feeding them with a bottle and/or formula! Anyone feeding anyone is totally valid and great!”

A “friend”, who I thought was open to some critical thinking or at least could tolerate (very gently presented) disagreements, blocked me for pointing out that the reason trans men always seem to need included in what are traditionally considered women’s issues is because they’re not men. I can’t with this shit. Have fun identifying with your oppressor. This friend came SO close to understanding the point of actual feminism but then decides a better way to deal with male oppression was to just say she now identifies as “they/them”.
