       Holy cow... 7 days into #100DaysToOffload already!Today's post is short, partly because I got distracted playing 0 A.D. (thanks @kev). 😂 https://www.justinvollmer.com/2020/05/01/0-a-d/

@kev yeah, I did. I played through the tutorial first, but then when I went to start an actual game, I went with normal difficulty, figuring that I could handle it since I’ve played other similar RTS games before. I’ve been proven wrong though. STILL haven’t won a game... 😂 Maybe today I’ll back it off a level or so.

@kev Backed the difficulty down to "Very Easy", and won... I'm not sure what that says about my gaming skills... apparently I'm a bit rustier than I thought. Or 0 A.D. is harder than some of the other RTS games.

Just reading the news about the acquisition of #keybase by #zoom today... curious what people in the FOSS community think of it? 🤔 https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/07/zoom-buys-keybase-in-first-deal-as-part-of-plan-to-fix-security.html

Today's blog post for #100DaysToOffload is up!I spent a few hours today setting up a personal wiki. I was quite impressed by the software I chose to use, so I blogged about it (as one does)... Enjoy!https://www.justinvollmer.com/2020/05/10/initial-thoughts-on-a-personal-wiki/

Slowly converting family to Linux... my dad has been tinkering with it for a few years on some of his computers, and has come to appreciate it, at least for certain tasks. And now, I’ve not only convinced my sister to give it a go, but to also pick up a custom desktop build from System76! She blogged a little about it yesterday as part of #100DaysToOffload - check it out at https://100daysofhannah.hannahvollmer.net/2020/06/day-46-you-can-tech-if-you-want-to.html?m=1 🙂

@kev @cooper Yup! I’m a bit jealous now. Even though my custom rig is more powerful, it doesn’t look nearly as nice 😕

My Fedora install lasted all of a few hours. Didn't like it. This morning, I've installed two different operating systems already. OpenSUSE looked promising, but the default install didn't get my mouse/keyboard to work right under X. I don't feel like troubleshooting, so... now I'm playing with a stock Ubuntu installation. So far, working pretty well. I'm normally a KDE fan, but I'll give Gnome a go for a bit at least. 😃

@deezthugs I’ve heard of Regolith, but never looked at it until today. It seems interesting, though I’m not sure how well it would translate to a small screen? This is a 13 in laptop.

After MANY months of consideration, and many MORE hours of work, I've finally migrated my website from WordPress to Hugo!I'm still playing with settings, themes, etc, but so far I'm pretty happy with it. What finally pushed me to make the change was the new DigitalOcean App Platform, which was a breeze to use.Check it out! (Website link + blog post about the change below)https://www.justinvollmer.com/blog/migrating-from-wordpress-to-hugo/

@finity thankfully, so far I’ve yet to run into any bugs, but glad to hear that the community is friendly and responsive!

@kev it’s been a while since I listened to Jupiter Broadcasting on a regular basis, but oddly enough I was listening to a Linux Unplugged episode earlier today and noticed the same thing. It felt a bit over the top when compared to other similar shows that contain sponsors, but somehow don’t spend as much time on the ad spots...

@kev Yeah... I honestly thought their quality started dropping some around the time that Noah moved to the Ask Noah Show/Destination Linux. Some of it was a change in ads (which changed again recently as your post noted), but it also seemed like newer content from the JB team was less enjoyable than it used to be for me. I've not been able to put my finger on exactly what the difference is though.

@kev Same! Those were the first two Linux/FOSS podcasts I listened to, actually! Now I only venture back when I've run out of other content it seems like 🙁

@kev for any form of software dev or audio/video production, def. go with 16GB RAM. With an IDE, browser, and a few background apps open I’m normally sitting at > 8GB used. You could probably “get by” with 8GB, but you’ll have a far better experience with 16GB. As far as waiting for an M2: I’d not at all be afraid of buying an M1 now. They’re enough advanced that you’ll be happy with it, in my xp. I’d def. go w/a Pro to get 2 thunderbolt ports though. And I personally like the Touch Bar :)

@kev I guess I hadn't really even considered going back to Wordpress... it's a valid option, especially with the WP to Markdown export. I may spin up an instance to try it out again. Thanks for the input!

@hankg @kev The GitHub/GitLab Web IDE is also an option. I've used it occasionally, but I don't enjoy the experience quite as much. It still requires folder/file creation vs the simple "new blog post" option of something like Wordpress.

@TomLarrow @hankg @kev I completely forgot Dillinger existed! I used that back when I first started learning Markdown, but have been using desktop-based tools enough recently that it never even crossed my mind! That could work...

@reykjalin @kev Wait... how long has there been a Markdown block??? Is that relatively new?
