@lowqualityfacts I don't believe this. I make up lots of words and my legions of fans say nary a word regarding their incalcinatory crumnumulance. Of course, I am a poet, and we get away with things. (...or lie... I can never remember).

I am continually grieved by the widespread discovery by the Long Covid community that being disabled is generally treated like a character failing rendering one deserving of any and all dismissive and reductive treatment. I genuinely feel for them, even as I wish more of them had thought of this before, even as I'm aware that if they had, perhaps we wouldn't be living in this rigidly ableist society. Recognize your solidarity, LC folks! Together maybe we can be heard. #disability #covid

@Radical_EgoCom Honestly, as a profoundly confused agnostic, (is there a god? is there Reality?!), these arguments always read as kind of patronizingly disingenuous. The loudest christians are deeply committed to fantasy and magical thinking, but that isn't even likely to be Most christians. I want to hear an argument against the beatitudes, for example. If you are So convinced you're right you deserve to proselytize, don't just argue with the lowest common denominator and call it a win.

@Radical_EgoCom To clarify, I'm speaking more generally, but my point was the preponderance of such debates in the Atheist arsenal. Can we demonstrate that 3-day-old flesh no longer conducts electricity at the rate necessary to sustain life? Sure. Does it matter to most christians when considering their faith? Nope. I just wish I saw more pieces with Actual debates about more relevant issues. These barrel-fishing exercises come across as limited and simplistic, and I doubt they're convincing.

@futurebird I also love that we are the fungus and we also have a ton of ants. A bit ago, I saw some enhanced electron microscope images of our bodies' nanofilament network and various motor proteins in action. Reminded me of the Doozers from Fraggle Rock, if that's a reference ever/still. HeheIt's stuff like this that made the child of a nuclear physicist focus on biosciences. Ooh. An atom. Here's a species with 20 functional genders and ultraviolet vision. SO much cooler! :)

@futurebird As a white person, I see a lot of, we'll call it the Cop Fallacy in my community: It goes farther than thinking that "cops are good". At least some part of them believes if the police are brutal and unjust to Black and Brown people, that somehow makes them kind and just to white people. They don't get that police are brutal, full stop. White? Great. You male? You sober? You sane? Can they claim you weren't? Like magic - now you're the enemy. Oppressive systems oppress. That's it.

@futurebird I recall at least three individual adults and several CSA visits who asked if I was being abused. Heads up: Kids are taught to lie to protect their abusers. In my case, I was threatened. I lied every time I was asked. Looking back, (staring fixedly, running out the door immediately afterward, etc.), I was not remotely convincing. Still, somehow the choice to seek help was left to an 8-year-old. Never put the weight of their rescue on the shoulders of a child.

@futurebird From the Disability salt mines - Trans here with a recent name change. I've spent the past two months repeatedly being told my paperwork was not received in Any of the ways I was submitting it. I've now lost low-income benefits including my caregiver. I'm in appeal, which I Very much hope they do not lose my paperwork for. Everyone has been very kind and helpful in my many phone calls to the offices, not that it's mattered.

@futurebird I'd argue for the arts-and-crafts skill implied with options 1, 2 and 4, but mysterious texts always seem to be either a) a language from a country they never bothered to learn about. b) runes they got wrong when they chiseled/painted/crayoned them before the cameras rolled, or, c) a bill of sale for grain, which is what most Real ancient writings seem to turn out to be.

@LoganFive 10/10 would recommend. I was chased by a flock when I was 6 and now I can't be killed. (Hurt, yes. Badly. Mostly by the geese.)(part of this story is true)

@futurebird I personally loathe audiobooks and getting my info that way. At the same time, I'm losing some of my vision, so my old hardcopies aren't as useful as they were. Right now I'm blowing up the font on ebooks, but there may come a day when audio is my only option. I think the important thing to remember is that what's perfect for some people may be unusable for others, and that's ok. I love that we have books in so many formats nowdays, so that as many people as possible can enjoy them.
