@nikink the last time I got Covid, which gave me pneumonia and kept me coughing for 4 months, with chest pain for 9, (I quit to stay home and die or get better) I know exactly who gave it to me that time too.The guy who worked behind me kept coughing, wet deep coughs, and I literally took him to another room to voice my concern. He insisted it was because of a new mask he was given (with the valve to make breathing out easier). It was Fri., and I got badly sick, positive test following Monday.

#ActuallyAutistic I really shouldn't and I try not to use neuro-typical as an insult, but by damn it does mean average and I am not really impressed with people who aspire to be "average".It seems about half of people rank the full range of humans on a strictly linear "trying to be normal"<---->"not trying hard enough to be normal" scale, and half of those would commit genocide to eliminate everybody different.It ignores a full cloud of valid talents & motivations.Boring is a poor goal.

@futurebird the first time I found a website that mentioned the Corpus Cristi International Kite Museum I knew it was fake and created by an AI because it told me to expect exhibits on Mammoths and the Era of Trains, because AI is awful at understanding the importance of adjectives like international & kite. I even went to the address on Google Maps and looked for it.But now, several other results refer to it. One even claims it is inside the hotel at that address. Is this inference or real? 🤷

@vriska totally depends on the car. I had a guy try to teach me on his old Honda Civic that he worked on and I stalled it out 100 times in a row. But I bought a manual Hyundai Excel that you could lift the clutch slowly and it would start rolling in idle even without giving it any gas. That car basically taught me how to drive a manual. The goal is to disengage the engine with the clutch when shifting, and reengage the clutch and give the engine the right amount of gas at the same time to match.

First they denied all rights to illegal immigrants, and deported them directly to jails outside the US with no due process. For a civil crime.Now they have denied legal immigrants the right to free speech and are stealing them off the streets.Soon they will deny the citizenship of anyone who is criticizing this government. And deport them to overseas jails, where they will not get trials and will not be heard from again.Because it is working. And they are escalating so fast.

I think there are certain, very human things, that LLMs are about to make much worse.Like confirmation bias. Mainly confirmation bias.A valid answer, a preferable answer, to the LLM question "what would a response to this look like?" includes a lot of confirmation bias.People are already losing their marriages over LLM counselling.And some people are actively saying, "Well ChatGPT told me..." Treating it like it is an expert. Like it has credibility. Like it will stand by what it said.

From the "Stuff to Blow Your Mind" podcast, so 3rd hand, but well researched...Egyptologists knew, from pictographs, of scenes showing water being poured out in front of pulled sledges carrying stone statues. Previous theory was it was ceremonial. The physics was recently worked out - easier to pull a heavy sled across condensed wet sand than dry sand.Two of my favorite things to hate on in anthropology: not believing documentation that the people left, and blaming behavior on 'religion'.

I bought a good phone.The best I could afford at the time I bought itIt is still better than low-cost phones sold now.But the only reason I will be forced to replace it is because it is 4 years old and the battery was not designed to be replaceable. And given the rarity of minerals used in its construction, this planned obsolescence should be illegal.And given the amount of battery extending advice online, more people want their phone to last longer than not.

Ironically, having a despot like Trump in office could help future conservative movements. Many conservative talking points were about being prepared for a future totalitarian government.Every citizen owns guns.No federal databases of things the government might disagree with.Strong state independence.Of course the current GOP has failed every one of those talking points. At their heart they wanted to worship and throw money at rich people, while kicking minorities for solidarity.

The United States called every refuge fleeing Venezuela a drug dealing terrorist, without evidence or court proceedings, and deported many to a foreign gulag when Venezuela refused dehumanizing repatriation flights.You can not square this with the idea that the US is being hailed by average Venezuelans as liberators.
