Like many villages in the South Wales valleys mine used to be a proud home to a pit, a coal mine, a colliery - Deep Navigation Colliery.How ‘deep’ you ask?735m, 2410ft. For context the highest of the Twin Towers was 417m, 1368ft. I pass this plaque often and whenever I do I am filled with deep humility and a heart-thumping pride in my very, very dear friends who had the courage to work here every day.

You people are pretty awesome I’ve gotta’ say. I joined this place hoping for a more tolerant, pleasurable social media experience and you’ve consistently over delivered - thank you so much. Literally not one even remotely negative interaction to this point. And I’m even willing to overlook the unsolicited private message from a, cough, ‘young lady’, cough, who wanted to be friends and, well, we know where this one goes… But ultimately no harm done.
