Friendly reminder to not ask me @glimpse questions because my employer stopped me contributing in February 2021. đ¤Śââď¸ My current understanding is that the remaining contributors are focussed on Glimpse NX (the UI rewrite). The fork I created receives limited maintenance to fix showstoppers & security issues because the project does not have enough volunteer contributors to do both.I am working on #glimpse 0.3.0 privately, but there's no telling if or when I will be able to release it. đ¤ˇââď¸

My warm take opinion for today is that the most ethical smartphone you can buy is a pre-owned one.If you're the second owner, you just halved the amount of exploitative labour, landfill space and carbon cost.Better still if you're the third or fourth.

@selea yep, and there is a reason that âdumpster divingâ is a thing.I live in hope that enough of these scandals & public outcries will motivate companies fearful of âhurting their brandâ to do better.Weâve even seen some governments in mainland Europe introduce legislation that forces supermarkets to donate unsold food instead of throwing it out with the other food waste.

In other news, I'm giving FreeBSD a go on my home machines. I have it installed on a spare hard drive in my gaming PC, and I'm planning to install it on my spare laptop too.It's still early days, but so far my experience has been positive. XFCE and the Epiphany browser also seems to be an excellent combination. #UNIX

It's definitely new ground for me. I think last time I tried this variant of UNIX, I installed OpenBSD on an old Apple iBook G4 three years ago. I wrote a blog post about it: https://trechnex.com/2018/08/04/openbsd-on-an-ibook-g4/FreeBSD is one of those operating systems I've wanted to try for a loooooong time. Now the stars have aligned because my modern hardware is compatible. #UNIX

Apparently Zoom straight up lied about conferences being E2E encrypted, and didnât tell anyone that they were passing personally identifiable data to Facebook & Google for years.They have just had their ass handed to them by the FTC, and members of a class action lawsuit will be receiving compensation. Also if you're looking for a good drop-in replacement for WinAmp on your Linux desktop, I've found that Audacious fits the bill quite nicely.If you install the Flatpak version on a GNOME 40 desktop though, ensure you set it to the "GTK (Legacy)" mode before reskinning it. đ
