I hadn’t realised quite how small the @Raspberry_Pi Pico W was until it arrived. I thought the Zero was compact, but this yoke is tiny!

@Raspberry_Pi playing around mostly, but a wee dashboard for Flightaware, and displaying my on call/off call status at first

@aral should one’s background in law enforcement prevent you from ever working somewhere like RasPi, or a similar ‘maker’ type place? If one was to hire someone with a (potentially) troubling background, should you be up front (and ‘proud’) of it, or downplay (and ‘hide’) it? Tone (and response) aside, are we getting to the “you can’t hire people who once did x” level now?

@mawhrin @aral my point is that it is a matter of perception. One person could say that mentioning someones background shows transparency, another could say it's proudly celebrating someone's past. Similarly, not mentioning it for sensitivity reasons could be viewed by someone as 'hiding an unfortunate past’. RasPi have undoubtedly shat the bed here, but there is a core question of 'should they refrain from hiring people with certain backgrounds?’

@mawhrin @aral awesome. Who gets to decide that, and where is the line? If one is to be so certain that that is the case, we *have* to be clear in defining it, because otherwise we are on a very very slippery slope.

@johnaldis @aral I totally, completely get that tone was a problem here, and I in no way think this was handled well. I think there was probably no way they could have hired the guy and not got a certain amount of backlash, and that is what I'm more keen to explore - can an org like RasPi make a hire like this, and position it correctly. How does one get the tone right over such an emotive topic etc. There's a wider discussion to be had imo outside of RasPi being shitty
