@lextenebris I haven't learnt my lesson. I keep seeing CoC fans praise certain scenarios and I think to myself "it's only a few bucks, let's check it out," and then I'm disappointed a few pages in. I mean, a lot of them are well written and contain creepy imagery, but the Investigators may as well be reading the Keeper's short story...

@lextenebris yeah, "gamist" was probably a poor choice of words, but what you describe in terms of player-facing interface and agency is what I was referring to. It just feels like I'm playing a game more than in PbtA.

@lextenebris It's still inexact, but perhaps passive vs active would be a more apt description (knowing that there are PbtA moves that don't follow the 2d6 + attribute format and allow you to do more or different things).

@mattkay @lextenebris I like Mork Borg (and the other Borg games), but yeah, the art can be too much. That said, it does help in three ways: most of the rules are printed clearly on the front and back inside covers, they offer art-free rule files, and their adventures (at least the official one) eschew a lot of those flourishes.

@lextenebris @mattkay I think Johan Nohr and the other folks at the Stockholm Kartell would argue that the art and layout are part of the substance. It is an art book too and certainly sets the mood.
