The argument against icons comes from a broad interpretation of the second commandment (Ex 20:3-6), and the passages noted in the comics above. The argument against veneration of and prayers to saints comes from 1 Timothy 2:5 regarding one mediator, that being Christ (primarily).Most devout Presbyterians will say something along the lines of “there’s no need for icons, and I find the idea of praying to saints both pointless and repugnant.”Personally, I don’t really have a strong opinion on the matter, beyond the obvious don't worship people who have passed on from this life. Don’t do weird things like collect their bones or whatever Bill Johnson was saying about laying on their grave. That said, I find the study of these people’s lives to be interesting and perhaps a neat way to glean insight into the Christian life.
