I have only been posting those things in French, but @LaQuadrature works more globally too!LQdN is a French organization making work somewhat similar to that of EFF, but mainly centered on France and Europe. And they are currently raising money to cover their upcoming expanses! https://soutien.laquadrature.net/(And they also have a nice slogan generator: https://soutien.laquadrature.net/generateur-slogans/)

Warning: it appears that in some cases, Mastodon (2.1.0.rc1 at least) will fail at serving the ActivityPub representation of an user, causing other instances to treat that user as an OStatus user (so, no private or direct messages for them).

In #GlitchSoc, public local-only toots (that is, toots that are never rendered outside the originating instance, never presented to non-logged-in users) appear in both the Federated timeline and the Local timeline. My reasoning to not change that was that the Local timeline has always been a subset of the Federated timeline… like, the Federated timeline is “all public toots known to the instance”.But this appears to confuse some people, so, should local-only toots appear in the Federated timeline, or only in the Local timeline?

Remember that awful bug uncovered/partially-fixed a couple days ago where removing followers through the /relationships page would not cause the receiving instance to process the removal? That, and other bugs, and communication errors, may lead to inconsistencies in different instances' view on who someone's followers are.I'm trying to fix that, this is pretty early WiP, but it's starting to take shape: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/pull/14510#Mastodev

it would be cool if this toot reached a lot of different fediverse implementations (boosts welcome)

Anyway, 10 days ago, I proposed an ActivityPub protocol extension to detect and fix inconsistencies in follower lists: https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/proposal-mechanism-for-synchronizing-followers-lists-across-servers/852Indeed, there are a few reasons why multiple instances could disagree on who is following someone. For instance the bug where Mastodon fails to act correctly when a remote user removes someone from their followers from the relationships manager (/relationships).It'd be nice if that proposal got more eyeballs on it, so we could eventually move forward and have it in Mastodon…

Attention to #MastoadminsWe are considering dropping support for host-meta and XRD support (inherited from GNU Social/OStatus) in next #Mastodon version, as the webfinger spec is enough and simpler. As far as we know, no fediverse implementation relies solely on host-meta or XRD, so that wouldn't be a big change. That being said, some deployments do (partly because of a guide I wrote ages ago, in OStatus times) depend on host-meta. That could be the case, for instance, if you installed Mastodon so that it is on social.domain.org but serving @foo@domain.org. In this case, please check that https://domain.org/.well-known/webfinger redirects to, or proxies, https://social.domain.org/.well-known/webfinger.With nginx, this could be done like this:location /.well-known/webfinger { return 301 https://social.example.org$request_uri;}#Mastoadmin #Mastodev
