       You know, there's a subset of HL beta mods that exist that are basically like "beta mod for people who have never actually seen photos of the beta." Where it typically takes a pre-existing beta mod and just shoves a bunch of random garbage that typically scrambles the whole mod up.This isn't even isolated to one video, one mod, or even an pre-existing mod. But as someone who's mod commonly gets this treatment to, it does feel like a spit in a face to just scramble everything when we try to get it as close as possible.

       What are the odds that a new beta would drop as I was leaving to house sit? Apparently, really high.But, I packed my laptop and have found some stuff.- Gauss Gun behaves differently (uses 2 ammo on primary fire and both attacks push you back)- The Cliffside in C2A5 has the jet going up and not straight.Things not found by me that are worth talking about:- Communication Center leftover at C3A1C. The Satelite Dish map used from roughly April 98 til it was cut from the game.- Pepsi vending machine.

       @eukara soon people will act like this is common knowledge and then complain about how we're using a part of the newer satelite dish map in c3a1 as filler. Use it to discredit us and claim we never got anything right.(this has happened before)

       What if I told you the original starting map to Surface Tension was actually "c2a5a.bsp" and not "c2a5.bsp"?This is not quite unheard of for pre-release Half-Life chapters. Both c1a0 and c1a1 do this with their following chapters (c1a1.bsp is still apart of the c1a0 chapter and c1a2.bsp is still apart of the c1a1 chapter.)However, we know what c2a5.bsp looks like due to screenshots not being renamed when being released. However, when I showed Brett Johnson (level designer, worked on c1a0, c1a1, c2a5, and a few other chapters) photos of the map, he did not recognize it.It is more likely that c2a5.bsp was actually more related to Alien Research Lab (c2a4) instead. The level c2a4c.bsp ends with a very similar outside area. We also know from a build document that we're missing a map from the chapter (c2a4d.bsp), which is likely our missing link.This would also make the old chapter title of "Cliffhanger" make more sense if the chapter started on c2a5a, as you would see the title on the cliff-side.It is probable that this map is Dario's map, which would make sense to why he recycled the aesthetic for his DM (and cooperative) map "boot_camp"Another thing to note about Alien Research Lab (c2a4) is that the opening map (c2a4.bsp) appears to be severely truncated. Dario alleges that Residue Processing was the next thing he worked on after Power Up (c2a1). Perhaps a smaller version of the chapter once connected to the other side of the lift in c2a4.bsp and wasn't directly connected to Apprehension (c2a3). For we know the ambush in Apprehension (c2a3) has existed for quite some time, and as far as we're aware Apprehension was always c2a3.

       Shout out to this Sentences entry added in the 25th Anniversary update that doesn't follow the naming convention that every sentence uses for a sound added in 25th Anniversary that is a duplicate of an existing sound (c1a4_sci_rocket.) It isn't used, at least according to a grep.

       I'm assuming this was an attempt to make it so it worked with the Uplink data, but decided to just make a model replacer for "ScientistU"That being said, they also made "scientistu01" to "scientistu07", which wasn't needed since none of those files were modified and get defined in the MDL. (Unless the engine ignores that part of the StudioMDL.)

       @a1ba @shpuld The only thing I've been able to directly pinpoint to Q2 is QGL being used in HL. However, they could have redacted that code or removed that code by the time of Quake's GPL release.The Skybox code also "comes" from Quake 2, but I have no doubt in my mind that it came from the Quake 2 ifdef seen in the Quake code.

       @a1ba @shpuld This also does NOT include anything changed in SDK 2/HL 1.1, as that had a large refactor to the code. SDK 1/HL 1.0 is very much just Quake (NetQuake at that.) My reverse engineering knowledge comes more so from pre-release HL and 1.0. Have dabbled a little bit into 1.1 era, but not enough to concretely point to things.

       @a1ba @shpuld Don't doubt it, I've documented a large chunk of the earliest Half-Life: Day One release and it is just Quake. Valve did as much equal changes to the code as Xatrix did for Kingpin with Quake 2.
