I'm trying this again because apparently there was a problem with the wording on one of the items and I just want to be sure about something.

@kyle As far as plain Debian goes, I'm not really a big fan. However, I do really like MX Linux (Debian-based) and I've been developing my own Devuan-based distro called PsychOS for older (32-bit) systems that's got a lot of unique features and more to come, especially for 3.4.6 (click the development logs link) https://theouterlinux.gitlab.io/website/Projects/Linux/PsychOS/PsychOS.html.

@raphtheman Hey, if you're interested, I have a huge listing of DOS-related developer tools on my website https://theouterlinux.gitlab.io/website and in the Projects section, there is a #python script (img2qb) I made for converting modern image formats to #quickbasic DATA arrays and it also produces a "preview" image that you can use in more modern engines but would use the actual colors of the chosen SCREEN mode. And, I have #gimp color paletes for various game systems here: https://www.deviantart.com/theouterlinux/art/GIMP-color-palettes-from-retro-systems-anime-etc-760564991 #retro #dos

@samuelnordstrum Eh.. Don't use zdnet as a trusted source for #Linux. http://techrights.org/2013/05/14/zdnet-msft-staff/ I don't they're lying or anything like that, but they have a history of cleverly bashing Linux and all other OS's and companies except Microsoft. Matter of fact, I think Microsoft's store has an app for ZDNet, which is weird. When you Internet search "ZDNet Microsoft," it's a bunch of internal company stuff, info on system changes, and how much they "heart" Linux. 😑

@cosullivan I have a distro that people seem to claim will run on 20 year old computers, but it's more realistic to not go past 15. https://psychoslinux.gitlab.io. Most of the problem is people having an obsession with constantly needing to update every 5 minutes, as if gaining a new version number is equal to points and GNU/Linux systems have lots of packages so updates are always available. I have a feeling there's some sort of addictive/gambling-like psychology to it. Use Debian/Devuan and be happy.

@alexcleac They make USB battery "extenders" that you could try. You basically plug it it instead of the power cable but at least you could walk around with it. They also make solar powered versions.

@68km It's kinda hard to beat Retroarch. They even still keep the W95/98 versions updated.

@Canageek @kelbot @TheOuterLinux @68km I used to prefer just having my emulators separate because I didn't like setting up Retroarch, but they've recently made some changes that makes it much more easy to use. The UI, or at least on GNU/Linux is somewhere between PS3 and PS4 quality. It used to use that 8-bit green UI, but he may have to choose a lighter theme if the laptop is too old. PsychOS uses 'RGUI' with colors set to 'Brogrammer' by default.

Just a quick reminder, I have a GNU/Linux distribution called "PsychOS" for running on older hardware (i686) and will hopefully soon release "PsychOS486" for those with even older hardware (i486DX/i586/i686), as long as you have 32MB of RAM for a console and 64MB for a GUI desktop, but 128MB would be much better. https://psychoslinux.gitlab.io #GNU #Linux #FOSS #PsychOS #i486 #i586 #i686 #32bit

Because this got boosted and liked by some people a bit late, PsychOS486 is now available if anyone is interested.

@TheFuzzStone If you were whatever stage in life is older than "senior citizen," you probably wouldn't care either. It's like when an older person buys a new sports car but they know they wont live long enough for any debt issues. Also, the "whatever tool" argument is just another way of saying "screw the next generation." However, sometimes the "whatever tool" stage takes place much earlier and that is usually either laziness or if you are religious, "Jesus is coming back soon so who cares."

So before everyone panics over the #freenode "take over," or whatever the heck is going on, instead of just migrating to something with the word "libre" (or similar) in it, treating every project with that word in its title as if the name guarantees anything, especially #privacy, which is a moronic thought for a public, centralized #irc server, my personal recommendation is #oftc since that is where Tor seems to do their IRC. They also have a web client at https://webchat.oftc.net/.
