@OhMyGodMyKneesHm. The closest land border is about 500 km away. Takes serious hiking to accidentally walk there. That said, walking across borders is no big deal, we're all one big happy schengen family.

@cocoronThe very harsh regulations on GMO makes it much harder for anyone smaller than Bayer to make anything useful. They can even spend the resources to get around the methods.A good resource to follow is academic researchers on the topic, particularly those without strong ties to the bigger corporations.Oh, and of course to work politically to reform patent law.But the biggest obstacle is a set of regulations that only the biggest wallets can navigate.

@sophiaAlso, the internet was an excellent place before the first ad was served, and could be just as awesome after the last ad has gone.

@CharredStencilReed-Solomon and most general erasure encodings are neat in that you get to choose both numbers yourself.17+3, 4+2, 12+1, 27+13, etc are all valid choices, some combinations are more useful than others. The N+1 and N+2 cases have simple implementations calles raid5 and raid6, but nothing prevents you from using R-S for those too (at a bit higher CPU usage).
