@jeremiah @waltercool I don't sere why the law-part is important for the argument. Rome - especially the Republic - didn't have a good written down law. One of the big flaws. I talk about organization of power and such things. That is a different thing all together. English common law obviously can exist in a monarchy, a dictatorship and a "democracy".

AI is awesome: Asked Microsoft's AI (GPT4) if Strassburg was part of France in 1518.Answer: It was annexed by Louis 14 in 1681, part of France until 1918, after that it was occupied by Germany until the end of WW2. A-frickin'-mazing....

@Mummabear they do/did. But they don't sell. <the link points to an offer where they sell 3 year old NEW e-Porsches 30% off 🥵 German car makers are killing themselves right now with this bullshit.

@Mummabear @RandomDaemon there are some ok German cars left, but now you pay extra for a gasoline car, because of the EU fleet CO2 rules. Meaning: you want a Golf? You have to pay a penalty because that reflect poorly on VWs CO2 stats. The Gold went from starting at 17.5k€ 5 years ago to 30k€ (both starting price).

@waltercool Fun fact: Karl Marx's contemporary and German chancellor Otto v. Bismarck was highly irritated by the UK giving asylum to Marx and speculated that the British Empire only did this because socialism is designed to bring down the conservative states of Europe (mainly Russia and Germany). Just an opinion from one of the top 5 politicians of all time :)

@waltercool well, that is the popular opinion, but I would disagree. I assume you talk about his often critiqued interior policy, specially the so-called Sozialistengestze and the Kulturkampf?

@waltercool uff, what a list 😀 First of all: I think your points are very good but miss-informed - which is not your fault since there is nothing that was is propagandized against then Germany (and maybe Spain). For now, I take out just one point: The pension system, which I think should talk about the whole "social security" system, he implemented.1. we need to see all under the perspective of Realpolitik. Realpolitik does thinks focused on (hopefully)moral goals and not ideology.

@waltercool 2. the main reason for the social wars was to remove arguments away from the socialists.3. the unemployment, pension and accident insurances were forced insurances (only) for dependently employed workers. 4. They forced the worker to buy a minimum insurance for the greatest ills of life5. they where mostly facilitated by non-profit organizations (except the pension)6. the government guaranteed all of that7. only applied to people who actually worked

@waltercool 8. pension age was 70, so only the really really old were allegeable 9. this protects from 2 big issue: workers saving to little and workers over-saving10. it helped Germany to recover very quickly from 2 of the worst wars in history11. the system was changed warped and perverted by the socialists to the crap we have nowTo summarize: Bismarck's whole social laws were a somewhat condescending: "if-you-workers-are-to-dumb-to-make-good-money-deccissions-we-force-you-to"

@Mummabear Yeah, and we have 20% less efficiency compared to cable charging. The healthiness of an EM field that strong is also a bit dubious.

Cool: according to MSM and 'experts' Germony had the hottest year in recorded history. The same people who said at the start of the year that we will never recover the lost ground water from the drought three years ago...We had rain for the whole second half of the year, a record flood right now and heavy snow in fall. The archery range of my club is normally crispy brown in summer, since it is an old quarry. It was green, swampy and had baby frogs this year. 🐸

@TheVintNerd lovely. I am missing the extensions for mine. But this is still one of the coolest computers ever. I don't understand why nobody ever mentions machines like this as the reason why the PC killed of a lot of the competition. Of course, not a lot people bought them, but they always were an option that you just didn't have with Apple/Amstrad/Sinclair/Commodore and !even! Atari ST.

Just noticed: with a USB Floppy Disk Drive, macOS 14 still supports that and gives you even a FDD icon on the desktop:
