@john This grabbed me. I want to know more. What is the medium? I wish I could see whether it has texture. Very engaging. Thanks for posting.

I just discovered a feature. There is a space to add a note to someone's profile that is only visible to you. So, that way you can add things like "This person was helpful when I first arrived," or "this is the person who likes cats."

Here's an old #film #monochrome #StreetPhotography shot I made about 15+ years ago in downtown #Seattle. Thought it was appropriate for New Year's Day: The subject is both turning the corner and looking back, and the sign above her head.... That's about how I feel moving into 2023.#BlackAndWhite #photographyEdited: typo

I think this is an autism thing. Not sure if I can explain it well, but here goes anyway. This is something that happens often when I have a specific technical question about something, so I google it, and find other people, on forums, who have the same issue. In this case (the one that made me think to write this) I was confused by a particular setting on my camera, and the manual doesn't help. I thought I understood the setting, but I wanted to confirm.Anyway, what I regularly find is a person who was confused about the same thing as me, and posted a question, and all the answers are lectures on the morality of using that setting. I think this is particularly prevalent among photographers, but I have found it common in other areas that require technical knowledge. It's like, when people lack technical knowledge, they create an ethical/moral issue to insert in lieu of technical knowledge. Often, a person with the actual answer will post it, and is ignored completely.I was a furniture maker for many years, and it was the same in woodworking. People fetishized certain tools, and when someone asked a technical question about, say, sharpening a chisel, they would get a lecture about the superiority of Japanese steel and how metals of differing hardness are layered, instead of "15 degree bevel works pretty good for paring."So, I think I finally understand that the reason this all seems ridiculous to me is that I'm autistic. I want to understand my camera settings in order to work more efficiently. I want to sharpen my chisel in a manner to work more efficiently. That's it. None of the other social competition stuff makes any sense to me and just gets in the way of progress.#actuallyautistic @actuallyautistic
