@jeff I don't see how that has any bearing on what other people do.Especially if it's just people making videos on the internet. Many more successful people have gone with Adobe products and came out juuuuust fine. And I'm not going to judge. Especially since I never said the word "standard" in this thread at all - because this has nothing to do with Adobe specifically, but is about *any* proprietary application that isn't provided on Linux.

@jeff not according to the OP was that the point at all.As far as I saw, this was just interjection with someone else's subjective views on what they considered "real" productivity, which...Another +1 for gatekeeping, ig.If that's the case that Linux is for 'professional' workflows, then fuck me, I guess I'm in the wrong OS.

The more I look at #Linux packaging, the more I realize:So many (different package managers/packaging formats) exist because they were all made in the dinosaur years back in the late 90's to early 00's before distros more closely collaborated with or were directly forked from/related to one another. And now they're just stuck with what they've got, because no one wants to be the big distro in the headlines that "breaks every known piece of legacy software, developers mutiny".

Haven't we agreed that burning books is awful and just wrong? So why are some people advocating for destroying internet information that may or may not have been archived?Doesn't matter what it is, but PLEASE don't start scrubbing history. It's incredibly shortsighted and only hurts people in the future without actually doing anything meaningful to the cause they intended to fight for. Also think of all the programmers that use Stack Overflow for documentation. Kthx

To be fair:If a source (code) is available to the public, with the intent by the original copyright owner, therefore an 'open' source, that does make it... An *open source.*Don't think anyone said it has to be Free & Open Source (i.e. with a permissive license) for the source to be open, as you can still view and research the source either way - that's why there's the distinction, is there not?Of course, whether it's freely whatever or not is up to the creator/maintainer.

Tbh nitpicking about the distinction and saying "uhm, ackshually it's source available" is pretty peak Linux user behavior and this is why we can't have nice things.I get this'll be unpopular--and I don't really care, it's just my $0.02.

@kirby I don't really pretend to know the minutia about this, but it's just a commentary about things I've observed that makes the general populace weary when approaching open source.

For a second-hand printer I got for $99, this thing's really been put to work over the past two months or so. It could be faster and leave a bit less stringing, but it allows me to print more than a couple of light gun shells that I may POSSIBLY be selling as prebuilts who knows???Odwalla doesn't call it this, but I've affectionately named his new design the Odcon Mini. Just the parts view is smaller than an assembled PiCON, but still feels wicked nice in the hand. :)

I swear if any of you fuckers start saying mean things about yourselves, I'll personally ferry all the way up or down to where you live and put motivational memes on your front door and tell you why you're the best.In Fedi.

Geeeh, for some reason I ended up getting some real fucked up dreams. Like some weird Matrix scenario except I'm the only one getting hunted down.

I'd rather my dreams just be the one where Athena Asamiya gets a huge dumptruck ass for some reason.(I wish I was kidding. This was like a week ago-ish and it still beduddles me how it even happened.)

Funni #Linux #Wine #WIP umu prefix manager update.A looot of code cleanup today. Now things are less redundant, and more stable when it comes to grabbing data. The main thing though is implementing the New Shortcut window, with working icon support! It'll automatically get and apply an exe's icon by default. But if you want a custom icon, toss in an exe, png or ico and the manager takes care of the rest. This uses icoextract and icoutils to extract the highest quality image it finds.

Have two updates for the price of one Kurea: shortcuts can be added and loaded properly!Shortcuts are given a random hash, so even duplicates of the same game executable or name (which might not be that uncommon) can be added without worry - it'll be counted as a separate entry.Icons (whether original or sourced elsewhere) are sorted in an icons cache subdirectory within the prefix, titled "ShortcutName-hash". This could probably come in handy should a favorites menu be implemented...

...Well, a hypothetical favorites menu probably should be using vertical banners from SteamDB preferably, like Bottles, but I'm already having trouble keeping alignments sane even in basic menus lol. So the faves menu will be like a stretch goal for me.The filesystem handling should be cleaned up and ready for me to just dive into the shortcuts/prefix settings panels tomorrow. There was some strangeness for a bit with the Qt settings backend and it randomly NOT showing results, but it's OK now

In contrast to the OpenFIRE configurator, which I primarily wanted to keep as portable as possible since it had to support two OSes and is shipped as an AppImage, this one is very specifically a Linux desktop app (duh!) so I may actually have to learn how tf Flatpak works lol.mostly specifically regarding, like, the external dependencies, i.e. Umu & winetricks & icoextract/icotools et al.

For every "GNU/" in "GNU/Linux", a local internet friend shrivels up and utterly collapses from the dangerous condensed amounts of cringe that being pedantic comes with.Stop that. You're not convincing anyone. Just say Linux.

@Alex Except that no one who uses computers casually cares about what compiler or toolchain you used to build funny pengu OS.It's a distinction without a practical difference.
