@Nonilex If I were on the Nobel committee I swear I'd try to find a way to award it to every single human being on Earth, 2006 Person of the Year style, *except* Trump.

@Nonilex When Republicans tried to eliminate the filibuster in 2005, I said "The Democrats should let them." I wish they had.Maybe we'd be in worse shape now. Or maybe they'd have passed comprehensive voter protections and Trump wouldn't be in office.

@ricci I'm furious that Conde Nast is cutting political reporting across its line, but I'm not convinced that canceling my subscription to one of the publications that's still doing excellent political journalism (Wired) is the most effective form of protest.

@ricci Neither will Wired if its subscriber numbers tank.

@phoronix Are we sure it's actually Kaspersky Antivirus and they won't be swapping it out for UltraAV without user consent?https://www.techdirt.com/2024/09/25/kaspersky-leaves-u-s-deletes-itself-swaps-everybodys-antivirus-for-software-nobody-asked-for/

@Nonilex And that bit about IQ is perhaps the most Larry Summers thing I have ever read.

@Nonilex Calling more attention to Epstein will surely work out well for him.

@Nonilex I thought for a second Schiff was one of the people Biden preemptively pardoned so Trump couldn't do this, but come to think of it he specifically asked Biden NOT to pardon him, didn't he?

@Nonilex Chait's got a point that things have changed, but it's not that these bigotries were previously forbidden, it's that mainstream conservatives used to couch them in dogwhistles instead of stating them bluntly. The GOP's transformation into the party of bigotry and anti-intellectualism was well underway when the Heritage Foundation was founded in Nixon's second term; Chait acknowledges Ailes's role but doesn't make connections to Ailes's work for Nixon, Reagan, and Bush 41.

@Nonilex "Republicans are pro-military" is one of those persistent myths, like "Republicans are good for the economy," that are so self-evidently false that I can only marvel at how much better they are at messaging than Democrats. (Granted, having the entire media constantly and uncritically repeat those lines does a lot of the lifting for them.)

@Nonilex Equating antifascism to anti-Americanism is...at least honest.

@Nonilex Yeah, "resigned" is not the right verb, CNN, but the important thing is she's leaving.

@Nonilex I think it's defensible, as long as we're assuming it's the classic POTY criterion of being the people with the most impact on the world, good or bad (Hitler, Stalin, Kissinger, Putin, Trump, etc.).

@Nonilex I'm in favor of more people watching unedited video of Trump speaking.I have no intention of watching it myself. But I hope a lot of people do.

@Nonilex I've long said that they'll let Trump get away with anything he wants as long as he doesn't fuck with the money. Guess we'll see if I'm right.
