@kaia @repeattofade Reddit designed their mobile site so bad that you need to use their app.But they designed their app so bad that you need to use third party apps.But then they made the API so expensive that you can't use third party apps anymore so you go to Lemmy instead.Thanks, Reddit!

@Rasp This described teenage me even though I'm straight. Then again, what I didn't realize at the time was that I'm autistic. Social situations are hard for me in general. Social situations involving romance? You might as well tell me to climb a mountain with no experience, guide, or gear.I actually met my wife online (Yahoo Chat Rooms). We conversed over text at first - which is a lot easier for me to communicate with - before meeting in person. Our 22nd anniversary is this Saturday. 😀

@Rasp I used to have trouble falling asleep. Then, thanks to my tinnitus, I started wearing a Bluetooth enabled sleep mask and played a specific mix of white noise when I went to sleep. Otherwise, I'd be up all night annoyed by the ringing that wouldn't go away.Over time, I've noticed that I seem to have trained my brain. When it hears that mix of white noise, it realizes it is bedtime and I go to sleep relatively quickly. I Pavlov-ed myself into getting to sleep better.

@Rasp I saw it more as a "we fired all our sys admins and now the servers are held together with bubblegum and string. We need to limit how much the servers are used because if they crash we have no clue how to fix it."

@Rasp Same here. My brain's always coming up with worst case, highly stressful, highly unlikely scenarios.To give an example, my 19 year old son needed to verify his identity with the IRS. On the phone, they said his info didn't match. We needed to verify in person. My brain imagined the IRS officer saying that we were faking my son's identity. Then my brain has police appear out of nowhere & arrest us. In reality, they just confirmed his ID & that was it.My brain is trying to stress me out.

@Rasp From experience, it's a lot harder than just writing. I published one novel and have a second that was completely written. The problem with the second is that I sent it to a group of beta readers in order to spot flaws in the text. They never responded to me, though. I could hire an editor to do this work, but that would cost a lot of money that I don't have.1/2

@Rasp Even after publishing, you need to publicize your book or no one will even know it's out there. It's an exhausting and expensive process which makes me put off writing so as to not deal with it at all.2/2

@tristansnell This sounds very familiar to me. My father (who, yes, is a Republican and supported Trump twice) claims to know medical stuff as well as any doctor. Why? Did he go to medical school? Nope. He was an accountant who did medical billing for doctors. But since he was around them, he tries to assert that he has "medical expertise."Of course, he also claims nobody ever had a claim denied due to preexisting conditions before Obamacare so even his medical billing expertise is suspect.

@Rasp I'm really hoping that the Percy Jackson series (and related series' in the Riordan-verse) get great adaptations. I've always thought those series' had the quality to rival Harry Potter. It's a lot more LGBTQ+ friendly too. There's at least one gay couple, a gender fluid character, and more. And no JK spouting hateful comments.

@Rasp But a year is actually about 365.25 days long. Thirteen months of 28 days would be 364 days. We'd lose 1.25 days every year. Maybe every 6 years, we have a Leap Week. We'd still lose half a day every 6 years so every 84 years we'd add a second Leap Week to even things out.
