@coolboymew@dougThe reviews of those games remind me of when journalists shilled hard for Spec ops the line. Regardless of your opinion of that game, I vividly remember journalists who seethed at GTA and CoD talking about how it was amazing because it said the USA was bad. They enjoy games where a blatant political message hits anyone playing the game like a brick. I've seen communities like this where they give up their hobbies to circle jerk about politics as their only topic and will scream if you say that lockdowns and trans rights are also political topics.

@pomstan@coolboymew @dougI forget but to be honest the journalists saw it that way because you play as the USA and a lot of FPS games/movies had single player modes that bordered on propaganda. Then again the most iconic mission in MW2 was a false flag gone wrong and everyone overlooked that subtext of the mission.

@TheMadPirate@doug @coolboymewOh they made films that were progressive leaning but they either didn't get noticed too much, or they pandered to those who actually watched movies. There were plenty of movies where strawman racists got killed or attacked or mocked depending on the movie. This was more likely if the movie was black cinema or had a Jewish director (or both), yet because of the time and circumstances it was given a pass easily because a lot of WWII vets were alive and the kids left behind were adults now, or the end of segregation etc.They also happened to make more entertaining movies with personal experiences woven into them instead of preaching about why so and so is bad.

@cyberanathema @basadeskaiser One job I took a while back was literally my coworkers coming up with coping mechanisms for being paid under $15 an hour and forced to do lots of heavy work for 9-10 hour workdays that oftentimes stretched longer. Those same employees laughed at me for being the only one to actually wear PPE on the job when nobody else in that field seemed to give a shit about their body lasting long at all.I was fired from the job for not being able to work fast enough as my body physically kept giving out during a shift. Sure boomers tell you that you can tell the boss to give you accommodations, but in reality the boss uses that as a factor to decide that you would be better off flipping burgers. I'm surprised people out there have loyalty to a soulless corporate job that treats you like shit when the job across the street probably pays more, and will end up hiring you anyway when the corporate HQ closes your store down.

They were lifting up heavy objects but not carefully, but rather in a "wagie boss wants this done now now NOW!" mindset. As my boss explained, the goal was to provide dealership level car repair at fast food speeds.That's how you violate OSHA and break stuff, because the only way you can get that done is at a shop that's low traffic in general. I'm sorry but my body is worth more than $12 an hour to serve some boomers and fat single moms from the hood who smoke in their shitbox.

@cyberanathema @basadeskaiser I won't name them for opsec reasons but this is a chain of "quick tire/lube" places that advertises the fuck out of speed. How fast are they? Instead of spending money on bigger shops they end up working on cars IN THE PARKING LOT to fit more customers in. Other examples of the bosses being greedy bastards involve the fact that this was the only car repair shop in the area to use pull down doors for the garage instead of garage openers. No really. The only stores in their system that did not have them were leased buildings because the other chains have push button garage door openers.They had a contract with a specific local car part supplier who constantly fucked them over by giving them the wrong parts, when the competition goes to NAPA/Advance/AutoZone/Federated instead. The district manager was anal about putting the paper mats in the cars, but tended to neglect actual work going on in favor of speed as well. He drove an old 2010 Benz C class or something that had plenty of paint chips and shitty window tint, which is probably the most fitting car for a worthless wagie boss. The funniest day was when someone from the hood brought in their Benz of the same era...and it was in better shape cosmetically and mechanically. He really thought he was hot shit by driving a Benz that everyone in the apartment complex parking lot owns. The manager of the store also made sympathy excuses a lot.Oh yeah. How good was pay? It was pretty shit. It was shit enough to the point where employees would take home scrap tires in "good" shape as a side gig for extra money. If you had a guy who gave a shit about you that day, it was common for them to offer customers their old tires if they were in good shape. By the way, you know those signs that say "we pierce tires"? A lot of times that's fake and gay, not only do they never pierce tires most of the time but they even tend to have problems with overflowing stock. I'm sure if you drove up to them pretending to be the tire truck, you could steal shitloads of tires or something and they wouldn't care less because they just want the overflowing pile to go away.

Sure they're unsafe especially on clapped out hood chariots, but who gives a shit when you have no money and your shitbox broke again.Lots of hood chariots had plenty of telltale signs of used tires and crap, and as I was working when the stimmy checks came in I got to see them up front. There would be 4 old ass tires of different brands, there was a car with severe rod knock getting new tires, there would be 4 mismatched tire sizes (for example a 205/60r17 on one wheel, a 205/65r17 on another, a 215/65r17 on yet another, you get the idea), but my favorite was a Pontiac G6 or similar GM shitbox of the era that had 3 17 inch wheels and a 16 inch wheel or something like that. We straight up refused to change the tires on that thing until we got a junkyard rim first.

@cyberanathema @basadeskaiser Put it this way. You want all 4 tires to be the same size, but if that situation comes up you can just swap different tires in. The R number is the most important because it's the rim size.So this shitbox hood chariot came in with one wheel smaller than the rest, and a larger tire to compensate. That right there is risky for a ton of reasons, namely one wheel is moving at a higher speed than the other side. You can have tires of different sizes as long as both of the ones on the axle are the same size (staggered).You'll know you have it wrong if the tire refuses to mount on the rim because of force, or the tire falls through the rim. There were too many times in which the idiots in the front counter sold tires for a 17 inch rim instead of a 16 inch rim, or vice versa. They didn't look at the car, they just keyed in the car and the customer said "Idunno it needs new tires" when asked about the trim level.

@cyberanathema @basadeskaiser By the way if you have a Diesel vehicle or German car (and especially a Diesel vehicle), do not take your car to a quick lube place because there is a 9/10 chance they do not have the right oil for your car. AutoZone does, the dealer does, the specialty shops do, but the quick lube place does not. Wagie McWagecuck will either refuse to do it, or will dump in whatever oil they have on hand even if it isn't right for your car. Why? He doesn't know fuck all about what LL-04 or 507.00 means, he just sees 0w30 and thinks "it's 0w30 that should work right?". Congratulations, you just voided your warranty. He doesn't know shit, his shitbox Honda Civic or Chevy S10 would probably run with KY Jelly as motor oil. I also saw so many times they used 0w20 instead of 0w16 oil. Even worse is how I saw fleet cars that required synthetic had synthetic blend put in them.
