If you need more reason to question being #fedified, it's – already – a system with restricted access. Many systems are centralized but there is no reason all need be and many reasons for some not to be. People have put a lot of thought into creating decentralized solutions and it's worth considering them before trying to recreate how something worked, before. For instructions on verifying a personal website: https://barrd.dev/article/add-a-verified-website-to-your-mastodon-account/And reasons to avoid #fedified: https://queer.party/@sammy/109347400549995722

What do people think is too large an instance, the point when a Fediverse instance should really be encouraging others to join another instance in the hopes of keeping Fedi decentralized (measured in users)?

@kellyn I'm not sure what might be the solution for this but I'd be remiss to not mention that @Castopod's doing some great work in the Podcast realm.Beyond the (obvious/unfortunate) advertising push places like Apple are doing to associate podcasts with platforms like theirs, there is – for the average person, I think – less cognitive overload to think of podcasts as something you get from somewhere.Alt. sources, such as Castopod, may may keep that easy association w/o curtailing freedom?

While I've been quiet on here for half a year (so maybe it hasn't seemed like that long of a silence but it /feels/ like it's been a year), just wanted to reassure everyone this project is still in motion.Regardless of how long it takes me to work on this, I (naturally) am very attached to this project (and, even if I wasn't, we deserve to have social media we own…) and want to see it continue developing.Unfortunately, more health issues at home arose and my ability and the time I

I had to focus on this evaporated.Future development, going forward, may be slow but, as I mentioned, I really love this project and want to keep developing it.So I mostly wanted to give a heads up so people knew what was going on; I may try to just post more of passing thoughts here, rather than limit things strictly to development updates, just so this account is easier for people to engage with.

I always was disappointed when the accounts of projects I was excited about went dark so I'll try to keep that from happening, even with a lack of updates.I had to reinstall my computer, yet again, so I'm going to be trying to get my dev. setup up and running once more, in the next few days. Hopefully, I should be able to get some further progress done, soon.

In lieu of #Tumblr being talked about again, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around.Have had to slow my development as the family caught COVID back in August and I was let go from my job shortly after that so I've been focusing on finding new employment. But I have no expectations of stopping work on Swanye, esp. once I find a job again.Just wanted an update so it isn't just silence; this account continues to periodically get followers and I'm always glad people are interested!

@damon To me, that's it's copyleft. Its internals will always be available, to anyone, anytime.None of the alternatives offer that. It's not a feature of the user experience but, because it's copyleft, that user experience can always change, even if the current primary developers want otherwise.
