@Sulla_Felix @dudenamedben33 That's really it? That's all we got? The story in Genesis just doesn't give off that impression. A fuck up? Yes. Still, when the brother that betrayed him was running from Laban, who welcomed Jacob with open arms? Esau and his family, and they lived there peaceably until it was crowded and they separated amicably. It just seems more like a weird regional squabble that we don't understand that the Hebrews just happen to put in their religious texts.

Look at how much Isaac, the child of the first covenant, loved Esau. He may have given his birthright up, but his blessing was stolen, and it appears Jacob was cosmically punished for that crime before he returned home to his brother...who had seemingly lived a blessed life without his birthright. Let me put it this way...I see a lot of people out Esau on the level of Cain or even Judas, and I just don't buy it. I can see him being on the level of Ishmael, who God even helped through speaking to Hagar. I'm my translation, it doesn't say "hate," it says "rejected." That I can understand through the original story. Through Jacob and Rebekah's duplicitous actions, he was rejected. I can take that on faith. At the same time, from all the evidence we have, I can't imagine Esau wasn't forgiven by the cross.
