To date, Super Paper Mario is the only game that explicitly allows Mario to eat the flesh of his fallen enemies. When the mammoth-like Muth enemies are defeated, they sometimes turn into Bone-In Cuts, pieces of meat that Mario can consume. https://t.co/uUxNCtbVBS

US patent 6115036A details "Mario Factory", a game-making game that later inspired WarioWare: DIY and Super Mario Maker. Many of the illustrations depict an original animal character with half-closed eyes. It is likely that, had the game released, this would have been its mascot. https://t.co/ENxDzp7XyO

Near the lighthouse in Delfino Plaza in Super Mario Sunshine, there is an alcove blocked with goop that requires Yoshi to clear. Going into first-person view in the alcove reveals that due to a texture error, it is lined with many tiny doors and windows. https://t.co/R4PibuTmnB

In Super Mario 64 DS, getting crushed while holding a coin box while on low health will both kill the character and restore some health through the coins. This traps the character indefinitely in a state of simultaneously being dead and alive, requiring the game to be reset. https://t.co/l7ooP9tFDz

The internal names used for the characters in the code of Mario Kart 64. Of particular interest is Luigi being called "Luizi"; this game is the only instance of him being referred to with this spelling. https://t.co/8S6Qa3kU9X

The city seen in the skybox background of Wet-Dry World in Super Mario 64 (left) is a heavily modified version of a photograph of Casares, a town in Andalusia, Spain (right). Note that the precise source photograph is unknown, and the provided photograph is for comparison only. https://t.co/RGpTBV7ejs

A pre-release screenshot of the Waluigi Stadium track in Mario Kart: Double Dash shows that in that version, the audience consisted of countless Marios, Luigis, Warios and Waluigis. This was removed in the finished game, likely due to these characters being supposedly unique. https://t.co/B1Ywl80Go6

In the data of Yoshi's Island, there are two alternate unused versions of Yoshi with a full mouth (left: used in game, middle and right: unused). It is unknown if these were simply early graphics or remnants of a mechanic where Yoshi could eat much larger objects than usual. https://t.co/IPdhAecFZP

In Luigi's Mansion, if Luigi is interrupted while picking up an item by a call from E. Gadd, instead of turning around, he will morph between his picking-up animation (left) and the call answering animation (right) by turning inside-out. https://t.co/TCSqUvEV4V

At one point in Super Mario Sunshine, Delfino Plaza is flooded while the rest of Isle Delfino is not. The game achieves this not by raising the water level, but by lowering Delfino Plaza relative to the rest of the island (note the same water level in Ricco Harbor on the left). https://t.co/NF7X8VfvLJ

In Paper Mario: The Origami King, looking through a telescope at Overlook Tower shows a close-up of a Toad's face (left). The lens can't be moved in-game; however, the face is only part of a full unique Toad sprite that can be seen by extracting it from the game's files (right). https://t.co/ZUyTqwCi2w

Normally, whenever Mario dies in Super Mario Bros. 3, all moving objects freeze in place. However, Fire Piranha Plants are unique in that they are still partially active during this, continuing to turn their heads to look at Mario even during his death animation. https://t.co/ex5TD0sr4d

Mario Party 8 stores graphics for text pop-ups as individual letters. The letters are displayed roughly in correct order in the files, but due to duplicate letters not being needed, the texture sheets appear to be misspelled versions of the actual messages. Examples below. https://t.co/Tth9EKiZCV

Viewing the impact frame by frame shows the monkey is still there up until the cage hits the floor, whereupon it explodes alongside the cage. https://t.co/3veyXBOmlL

In Super Mario Odyssey, the New Donk City power plant depletes Power Moons at a rate of exactly one per second. Since the power plant is said to be the only source of the city's power, we can calculate that New Donk City runs on 86,400 Power Moons per day, or 31,536,000 per year. https://t.co/zqL2oI1osz

In Super Mario Sunshine, Yoshi dissolves when he enters water. In the last few frames before this, his model undergoes severe deformation whereby he curls up and his head and hands become larger. After the hands have grown to roughly half of Yoshi's size, he disintegrates. https://t.co/TUkMrRGTyw

In 2009, an officially licensed figurine of Luigi tipping his hat, based on a promotional render, was released in Japan. While most modern licensed Mario series figurines strictly adhere to the proportions of the original model, this one features arms of visibly different length. https://t.co/IdZ4k1U2If
