@izaya I’ve implemented custom bidirectional pipes using SHM once upon a time. Never really used it tho; I just use Unix domain sockets when I need such a thing.

@yogthos Given that optics aren’t the only thing used, that’s only going to work for a few face types, mostly kids.You’d need something that also hides IR (heat) radiation signatures, bone structure, and so forth.

@strypey There needs to be a single notion of what an "identity" is, in the context of the Internet (I specifically did not say "web"). Kerberos offers part of the solution already. I was actually thinking about something similar, but for a different set of services.Could elaborate on those thoughts later, I suppose.

@codesections 🤷♂️️Why the "internal format" of strings isn't something that ia a user-configurable setting is beyond me. Seems like while 90% of systems are just fine using UTF-16, of those, 99% of them would be just fine with UTF-8. The rest of the world (where UTF-32 actually _saves_ space) would likely *love* that setting because then performance would be significantly increased over using any smaller wordsize for a character.

@adz No. iMessage already does this. Law enforcement cannot tap the past but they can be transparently added to the chain and the whole group gets rekeyed.

@adz As I understand iMessage, it is end to end. Every phone has a TLS cert, and the iMessage software has one, too. These only establish the connection. Devices then do key exchange each time a person is added. The key part is that Apple can add a party to the conversation silently.
