@maikelthedev @kyle While I agree that we shouldn't, if we're discussing lock in and social networks then we kinda have to also consider that others might not consider their decision so carefully.Which means we've got work to do educating people, because allowing these technologies into our lives generally has non-obvious consequences and we'd be better off if more people understood that.

@kyle @maikelthedev Very true. It's probably still worth some advocacy to help people make the connection (some will make it on their own, others might need a little help).

@primalmotion @eldaking @max @vortex_egg We can and should do both. Given how prevalent scraping is people should be aware of it and consider that when they post. But that really doesn't give someone a pass for scraping data from an instance that *specifically prohibits doing exactly that*. It doesn't suddenly become ok just because there isn't a technical control that prevents them from doing that.

@matunos @mmasnick There was a reason they were willing to sue him to force him to go through with the deal. They knew it was the best payday they could have ever hoped for.

@seldo @StevenBarnhart @mekkaokereke Is this on particular instances? Given the proactive and transparent approach I've seen towards moderation from the instance admins I've conversed with, as well as the explicit choice to avoid having search and implementing quote tweeting precisely because they're vectors for harassment I'm quite surprised to learn something like this wasn't dealt with.

@mjg59 The most obvious possibility is seconds from the UNIX epcloxh. But if it was epoch time, that'd be 29th November, 1992.Which probably doesn't fit what you were expecting, given Chrome didn't even exist in 1992.Maybe it's seconds from some other starting point?
