Short form @blair_fix, new post:Since ~1980, changes in the inflation rate correlate with interest income growing faster than wage income. Read the whole story here: https://economicsfromthetopdown.com/2023/03/23/inflation-the-battle-between-creditors-and-workers

@interfluidity Darned interesting. Did Hitler use such an approach/language (before taking power), I wonder? Reading Finer's (History of Government) section on the Jewish state(s) through Solomon right now, so this has me thinking about "you/we are the chosen people" that so deeply informed that government system (kings), in practice.

@interfluidity @chrisp Everything that needs to be said has already be said by SRW. Or at least, stop and look there first.

@interfluidity How about your candidate’s ads going negative on the other? I admit to taking some guilty pleasure now and then when they’re well done…

@interfluidity Dark matter really isn’t a terrible term for the discrepancy between firms’ book equity value and their market cap value. We can’t explain it. (Except by saying that markets have a more comprehensive view of what our existing real stuff is “worth” than the (hugely incomplete) purchase and sale markets did in the year the stuff was produced.) Real-estate dark matter is even more vexing, BTW.

@interfluidity Nice, thanks. Much to discuss there, but here just showing (in blue) labor compensation as % of comprehensive H-S income.

@interfluidity Democracy (popular election of leaders) is necessary to the world we want to live in. Unfortunately far from sufficient.

@interfluidity slightly more serious thought experiment: match the demand gap with universal income

@interfluidity a couple of decades ago I just went and bought half a dozen pears. I can find two or three pairs right now. Even after moving recently. Tip: put a pair on your kitchen counter. It seems to work. They are always at hand.

@interfluidity while it makes sense intuitively, are you sure empirically that dispersion is higher at higher inflation rates?

@interfluidity Right. Could also describe it as freedom to save (or not). But need to consider capital gains accrued and accumulated over years/decades as saving to think in terms of lifetime income/saving and spending. (Also considering difficulty/cost of spending from home equity and 401s/IRAs.)
