       @adam @atomicpoet The trouble with email is that  many small MX's are just dumped into spam by the big boys because of past abuse by spammers.  Some hosting companies don't even allow sending from their instances using SMTP.  They force you to use an email service.

       @lamp doesn't look like a python problem.  Maybe try a packet capture and look for differences?
