@CSB Eh. Pic is under full load (crunching for BOINC in spare cycles). I deal w/ big server systems & clusters at work. I appreciate low temps when the servers I work w/ regularly touch triple digits under full load. However, for home systems I'm just not that impressed anymore. And for Arm based systems? That's normal to me. One of the Arm systems at work runs 20C when it is busy! The thermal graph of the server shows the hot spot on the drives, not the CPU! That's still wild to me. :-D

@CSB Agreed. I just checked a few of my Xeons in the server room & they run 25-35C under load these days. In fact, the new ones break warranty over 60C (if I remember right). I don't remember what the procs were when I was with "a gov entity" that ran out in "the shed" but I was constantly ready to open the doors and see melted plastic. If I recall correctly, they had a max rating of 85C but frequently got significantly hotter.... So glad I'm not working there anymore. 😆

@CSB Yup! Been a fan of Intel gear for a long time, but geez are they making it hard these days! My Cascade Lake Xeons are boss! Not that impressed with the Ice Lake over Cascade. And I'm under Intel NDA so all I can say about Sapphire Rapids is - not impressed & slightly worried.Meanwhile AMD is cheaper & very impressive recently. It's been YEARS since I bought AMD servers but...For infrastructure & storage? These new ARM servers run COLD on little power.

So the #BabylonBee pulled one of their podcast episodes and hid it behind a private youtube."Redefining Social Justice With Scripture: Dr. Thaddeus Williams and Monique Duson Interview"Their podcast is mirrored out to other places, but it looks like they've scrubbed it. @Dkaver just remember that the field of IT is MASSIVE. It's OK to specialize & it's OK to struggle w/ certain concepts & roles. Don't beat yourself up too much if you're struggling w/ a topic.Personally, I found great passion in the hardware of BIG systems that span many many racks. But ask me about a touchscreen device that fits into a pocket & at best its a 🤷♂️ if not 😡 . I only work in Linux. I won't touch a Windows or Mac system. One of my good friends only works Windows. Find what you enjoy

@Dkaver That's a big field too. Explore enough to know why you like a particular path. Ruby vs Javascript vs go, ect will all lead different paths. DevOps is a flashy name for a lot of different things, but do check Gitlab's annual reports for where the market is going & what languages/concepts to look out for:https://about.gitlab.com/blog/2021/05/04/gitlabs-2021-survey-uncovers-a-new-devops-maturity-model/I can't stress enough, find something you are enjoying then find a matching career. It's soul sucking to be on a project that you loath & the tech world is huge.

@Dkaver If you are just doing programming, the same is very true. There's a big difference between C, Bash, Python, javascript, Fortan, R, Matlab, Rust, Go, ect ect ect. Don't chase the paycheck! Focus on the programming concepts & EXPLORE the languages. That will determine your career path. Some languages are more flexible in careers then others (eg: Python/Go). If you fall in love with Fortran, you best be good with Physics because only the big labs use it but it pays well cause few do it. 😆

I don't do Apple.I don't do Google.I don't do Spotify.I certainly don't do Amazon.However, I have been listening to a LOT of podcasts recently (hooray podcastindex.org!) and I would like to leave rating/review/feedback for the podcasts I really like. I prefer AntennaPod as my player of choice, but they integrate into Google. 😞 Anyone know of a good place to leave ratings/reviews for podcasts that isn't one of these sketchy companies?

Well.... F@#$%My employer is force requiring vaccinations. Not sure what I'm going to do about it yet. I had COVID. I've had worse allergies (seriously). But they won't accept natural immunization as acceptable. 😩 Suggestions?

@Fox Yup. Not panicking.. .just disappointed. They'd been holding off and saying for months they weren't going to enforce it. But as soon as they announced the all-hands-attend-video-stream I knew it was coming. And def updating resume. Not a bad idea for number three....
