#webdev who are making applications for the desktop should consider looking #tauri It's really interesting on how it works. It interfaces with the OS's web engine instead of staticlly linking an embedded chromium instance like #electron doesThis means that by users keeping their OS up to date, your application should always be running with the latest security patchesBeing written in #rust also gives it extra security pointshttps://tauri.app/

@BrodieOnLinux I'm looking forward to seeing how they do this. The system76 extension is the main reason I use GNOME, so I hope it's similar

@BrodieOnLinux I'm curious on what package system they'll use for their immutable system. Particularly if they're making their own or if they plan to use someone else's package systemUbuntu is using snaps for this and it seems unlikely that PopOS will follow that route

Podman being donated to the CNCF is an awesome move on Red Hat's part. It's an important step in order for Podman to start becoming an industry standard tool so we can all finally be free of Docker's terrible design choiceshttps://www.redhat.com/en/blog/red-hat-contribute-comprehensive-container-tools-collection-cloud-native-computing-foundation#Podman #Linux #redhat #devops

@sun It's a good question! Podman is designed in a way that's mostly compatible with Docker so on the surface it may seem like they are the sameHowever, Podman does a lot of things different. Namely its that Podman uses a daemonless designThere's a book written by the creator of Podman called "Podman in Action" and in Chapter 1 section 3 they go more into the differences between Docker and Podmanhttps://edu.anarcho-copy.org/GNU%20Linux%20-%20Unix-Like/Podman/podman-action.pdf
