@freemo yeah it came in handy that I had like 4 Archer C7 1750 laying around from when I was doing freifunk free wifi previously, wouldn't make much sense doing that on the 3rd floor now though😅, it was as straightforward as uploading a firmware update.

Now it gets interesting. Thread starts limited federation. Some don't care, some suspend, others suspend and ip ban their ranges.I decided to do the latter, so they simply can't gather data from here in an easy way.While I strongly advocate for an open federation policy and despise blocklists, I also care for big privacy and data security issues, don't want them to start doing weird profiling crap and what not with our data.

@deavmi *cough* I also run a public peer, which is bad being down 3 weeks oops, now runs via systemd, next crash will cause a restart. But nah it would be bad privacy-wise to use my peer, while it is to keep in mind that privacy is not yggdrasils main goal :eichkat3r_hot: . got a cool short domain: quic:ygg.yt:443, tls:ygg.yt:443 or tcp://ygg.yt:80 :eichkatzo:

@deavmi @martijn I understand that when it comes to your own pc this is bad practice, but as what I understand is that when you have multiple peers you might act as a bridge between these and improve overall connectivity, which i aim for as public peer.

Doing a major reorganization and patch day when the new server is deployed. Expect a couple of hours downtime midnight CET this january(accurate date follows). DB and translation service will be moved to the second server, this way spikes on Sidekiq and Postgres can't impact each other in any way.

I saw someone mention a mastodon.art post and I just went through their about page for fun. Their blocklists reads like a almost complete instance list by now. Also by their own ruleset they should have blocked mastodon.social and mastodon.online by now because they do federated with a couple of hundred instances they have blocked. But they know that would cause a mass migration away from #mastodonart . I don't know why people still register there with -80% reach compared to sane instances.

I saw the announcement of the Fediverse Discovery Providers concept.Should we run a fediverse discovery service?If it is a drop-in replacement for relays, rel.re will swap to that anyway though.
