@Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman @justinerickson This press conference was 5 days after the enactment of the emergency act (Feb 14), thus making protesters at that time (Feb 19th) liable. The reporter even says she was among protesters and pretty much confirms that not all protesters "legally complied", when the act was in effect, there was still thousands in the streets protesting. She clearly says "protesters at this point" not saying *before* the act but clearly after.

@Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman @justinerickson So i would say yes he does "sound" like he's authoritarian but he's just enforcing a law in effect at that time. I would like to see how this protest would devolve in another country like Iran or Russia, it lasted a month, they blockaded the whole city center, disrupted the local businesses, heck they even setup a fucking jacuzzi. They had free reign all this time with no repercussions whatsoever.https://cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/styles/story_page/public/2022/02/16/241184-gallery-4.jpg?imwidth=3840

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman They desecrated the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, got drunk, flew Confederate flags (whatever that means to Can. Citizens), locals were harassed, there's 8 million missing in donations so organizers took advantage of protesters.Sure the government could have handled it better than that, with the benefit of hindsight, but mob rule isn't pretty either. They fucked around and found out, simple as that. It wasn't all rainbows and unicorns.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman I think this shows that everyone is accountable, politicians and protesters, nobody is above the law. Government did take rash decisions but converting the national capital in some sort of bastardized "CHAZ" is also ludicrous. And i don't think I've ever seen either a fascist or authoritarian regime make a public inquiry after the fact. No matter if its left or right winged, the IQ of protests is never additive, it averages to the lowest denominator

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman It was a confused mess of conspiracy theorists, nationalists, opportunists and influencers. Conservative politicians used the protesters as tools for their platform and then dumped them after. They don't care about citizens. But for some weird reason, if i'm not with them i'm forcibly against them and judged as a liberal supporter, witch i'm not. I'm not sure where you're getting at with the "not a good look" thing. Groupthink much?

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman "Handful of conspiracy theorist" lol thats rich , were you even there? I was. It was a shit show. Groups of vets and wannabes policed the people they didn't like or gave them the wrong look. I'm all for protests, but getting bullied if you are not with them, nah im good. And i'm willing to bet that a conservative government would have been even tougher on that crowd, because that's the mentality, though on crime, rule of law yaddi yaddi yadda.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman Poilievre is an opportunist and a sellout lol He just wanted votes nothing more. He would be the first to sell Canada to the highest bidder. They were deplorable, low hanging fruits. I've seen hundreds of pickup trucks with slogans and flags with "Fuck Trudeau" written on the back window, being assholes on the road and giving the finger to anyone who gave them the "wrong" look. I wouldn't want a society governed by that sort of people lol

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman As a said previously it was a rash decision of the government at that time and with the benefit of hindsight they should have handled it better than that, but having a public inquiry about the matter showed that a lot was happening on the ground and behind the scenes during the events. Reading the public inquiry about the frozen bank accounts show that it was quite nuanced and tricky to grasp what really happened:https://publicorderemergencycommission.ca/files/documents/Final-Report/Vol-2-Report-of-the-Public-Inquiry-into-the-2022-Public-Order-Emergency.pdf

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman The problem here was that mandates were in place in the US also, not just Canada. And the CTA never supported the convoy in the first place, claiming that a lot of people in that protest weren't even truckers in the first place:https://cantruck.ca/statement-by-canadian-trucking-alliance-president-on-ottawa-protests/I don't *hate* conservatives, i've just seen a lot of opportunism and exploitation in the last 5 years coming from the opposition, and some is really fucking cringy.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman Back in 2003 i protested in Ottawa against the war in Irak, i was young and dumb, Canada wasn't even implicated in the war. It was a liberal government. Then in 2012 i went though the leftwing student protest in Quebec and almost didn't get my diploma because of these nitwits. I've been right winged since then. But when covid hit, i've turned my back on all of it because i've seen too much people drinking the Rebel, InfoWars and Tucker Koolaid

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman And i've seen too many Canadians and Quebecois being proud Americans, who think we have the same laws as the US has. Too much ignorance, too much hate, too much stupidity in a lot of cases. I got tired of it. Yes maybe Trudeau isnt really likable, but when i hear Poilievre spewing the same shit Musk says about the media (like this week) all i see is a corporate shill who would sell our public institutions to big corp in a heartbeat.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman My general attitude is more of skepticism than partisanship. I would apply the same rigor on either side of the spectrum. I find mostly that nationalism, partisanship and similar alignments poison the well of the human cause. We tend to put our head in the sand when "the other side" has something to say, and i felt like talking to a wall when speaking with conservatives in the last 5 years, like becoming entrenched.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman I fell for Trump in 2016. I was all in and rooting for him for the memes, and trolling. But after the whole wave and hype, the more i look at it the more i feel like i was gullible and naive to have hoped on the bandwagon. Just look at the whole QAnon thing, its clear today that it was a "psyop" created by his people to keep the hype train going, but in retrospect it was vapid and a big lie to keep people hooked.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman You see that's where i have a problem. Because if you really take the time to look into it, it really boils down to: socialism for big corp and banks, and crony capitalism for the rest of the slaves. All the anti union rhetoric comes from big corp also. We neglect our public institutions and because of that neglect they become outdated and defunct. Privatisation is only good for the owners, not the users or the public.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman And education is also neglected. You say that universities are propagating bullshit but its not exactly true. Maybe some programs like gender studies who are being propped up by the right wing as being, like you say, arrogant socialism, is only a minority. People have blinders on when it comes to these subjects and lack nuance and objectivity. You talk about this as if they want to do a takeover and burn the reichstag.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman I think he projects an image of being a fighter for the little guy, but in reality he's in for himself. I mean, just look at his NFT Trump Dollar Bill he did a couple of years back to fund his operation. Its laughable and pretty much a scam. He's like that. Maybe he talks the talk, but he never walked the walk IMO.

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman Yes we do. And i disagree with every single point about privatisation and union busting. Its corporate talking points to make more money and exploit workers, nothing more. Deregulation is corporations pushing to avoid being responsible and respect the people and the environment. Just look at Trumps April 2019 executive order to deregulate DOT for rail transport and see what its doing right now. My dad always told me "Pay now, or pay later"

@justinerickson @Meachamus_Prime @disavowmrman Because of one simple reason: conservatism isn't progressive. Its the "things were better back in the day" mentality. Its regressive even. I do not agree with your statement. Its the "we always did it this way" mentality, its closed minded. I've seen more conservatives do censorship in schools than any other party combined. Its a disgrace to say the least.
