@strypey It's been 14 years, there has been ample time to find a use case that is not fraud or ransomware. Scams may be quicker to setup - but there has been plenty of time for the real products to arrive.

@froomkin Most simple solution to Social Security is to just uncap the social security tax. It's crazy to me that the highest paid folks in the country see the social security tax drop off their paychecks partway through the year.

@eighthave Taking these kind of actions is what keeps the US Banking system on solid foundations. The treasury, FDIC, and Federal Reserve all have been a key component of keeping the system stable through shocks like this.

@lcannell @eighthave Best option for that is sweep accounts. Which either put excess amounts into various other FDIC banks but treat them as one or send the excess to Money Market Funds. There is no one that I’ve seen offering straight deposit insurance - the products instead seek to cover the excess by money movement of some kind that allows full FDIC coverage.

@simon This lines up with my feelings and experiences with it. It’s an tool that lets me do more work faster. If I want to rip a sheet of plywood, I can reach for a handsaw. I’ll get the job done but it will take me longer than my track saw and I won’t do as good of a job. ChatGPT and programming is the same - I’m faster and my focus is more on making sure the code is as solid as possible. I’ve found I’m more likely to implement error handling and tests in code I would not have otherwise.

@stux This is a pretty disingenuous comparison as the pickup in the front in a regular cab Toyota Tacoma and one older then 20 years as it looks like a late 90s model, which was a compact pickup model. Which the comparison is to a full sized, crew cab, F150. Even 20 years ago the F150 with a super cab was huge. That said as an owner of a 2022 Tacoma with the smallest cab available it is certainly a bit larger then the old 1990s models. Nobody makes a good compact pickup anymore. :(

@charli_gremlin I’m not sure it’s a COVID is over narrative so much as COVID is forever. We will never put that cat back in the bag, it’s no longer an emergency because it’s now the norm for both society and government.
