Pray for the wicked. A Grumpy Grumpleson X Comrade Lecter Fanfic by Shay, Dollhouse, Laura4, Boppi, Luwa, and The StateChapter One; new dawn new dayHe couldn’t think, his hands clammed, his knees felt weak. He stared at the machines hooked up to his partner, never looking directly at the scene in front of him. Lecter felt like he was going to vomit, for the first time in forever he had finally felt like he had managed to truly find a space for him, and now it’s going to be stripped away. His ears started to ring as he finally swallowed his fears and looked at body in front of him. The image before him burned into his head, his face dropped as he stared into Deaths sunken eyes. At that moment, deep within him, he knew what was coming. “Sir, we need you to step out of the room.” The surgeon, he couldn’t quite remember the man’s name, called to him from Death’s bedside. Lecter didn’t respond, he just sat there, staring into what seemed like an endless void of misery. “Sir.” The doctor called again, “You NEED to go.” The doctor began to approach him. “Eris!” the nurse called, reaching out to stop him, “I’ll get him out of here, you deal with your patient.” Eris sighed as the nurse reached out for Lecter’s hand, her name tag said ‘Brea.’. Lecter, as if he was making a final desperate plead to have a human connection, grabbed her hand and allowed her to lead him out. He didn’t break contact with the scene in front of him until the door to the surgery hall had closed behind them. “Sit, I’ll get you some water.” Brea guided him on to the bench outside of the room, urging him to sit by pushing him down. He just, complied, his face remained wide eyed, his features all compressed and twitched as he recalled the sight before him again and again. A sudden thud broke him from his trance as he snapped his head down the hall. “GOD FUCKING DAMN IT.” Was all he heard, followed by what sounded like breaking glass. “Listen, Im sorry!” A woman responded, “I know you’re hurting right now but you *Cant* break my OR to pieces because of your grief.” The only response he heard after that was grumbled and angry, followed by more thuds and slams. The metal door down the hall opened and shut with a slight squeak, though it was obvious an attempt to slam it was made. Another man, visibly pissed, walked out from behind them and immediately punched the wall directly ahead of him. The motion was fast, so Lecter couldn’t quite make the face out before the figure slammed into the bench a few rows down and hid his face in his hands. Something about this man felt so familiar, his voice, his long hair, but Lecter didn’t have the mental fortitude to connect the dots in his head right away. He turned his attention back to the floor in front of him as he waited for Brea to return. He did his best to take his mind off of everything happening around him and focus on literally anything else. The tapping of feet as random nurses and doctors passed, the crying of loved ones over their respective family members successes and failures, anything. He couldn’t unsee it, no matter how hard he tried. He couldn’t forget how it felt to watch his person on a gurney just inches from life, their fate in the hands of not some unforgiving and thankless beast that dared to call itself a god. But rather a human man with human feelings who likely felt the same pressures of a god without the omnipotence and patience of one. He froze as a paper cup filled with water was dangled in front of his face. He looked up to see Brea, a calm yet obviously concerned smile etching across her face. “Don’t focus on them, focus on this.”It was uncanny how she had managed to understand everything that was happening in his head in a matter of seconds. They hadn’t spoken more than a word to each other since they had met and yet this once nurse knew exactly what he was trying to do and exactly how to get him to reel it in. He grabbed the paper cup, focusing only on its weight. He shook the paper cup, focusing on only how the water rippled and swayed with his motion. He sipped from the cup, only focusing on how cool the water felt compared to his body temperature. He swallowed, only focusing on how it tasted going down. Amidst all of the focus, two things he didn’t notice creeped further into the forefront of his mind. 1. He had started crying.2. The man from earlier was getting closer. “No shit.” was all Lecter heard before he felt a hand on his shoulder. He flinched in response, a nervous reflex if anything else.
