@t0k The Purpose of the #HackingLicense is to create a cultural and technological corpus that will grow and evolve completely and exclusively as a common heritage of humanity. It's designed to cover and extend to any intellectual artifact and to go beyond the anachronistic distinction between contents, data and code.Code is data and data is code. However even ICs are intellectual artifacts that people should be able to donate to humanity without fear of any corporation exploiting them without giving back anything to the community. That's why I included mask-rights after studying CERN OHL (and all the others listed here: https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Open_Hardware_Licenses )

@mmu_manExcept one that hides to the users the source they are copying, helping them to violate any open-source license that requires proper attribution and, what's worse, any #copyleft imposing reciprocity. That's why I wrote the #HackingLicense http://www.tesio.it/documents/HACK.txt so that when we will be able to prove that #Copilot distributed any work under such license, we will have to assume that #Microsoft accepted the license, that the "models" of #CopyALot are used under its terms and thus all the software that adopted its "suggestions" can be used under its terms too.@BrodieOnLinux

@strypeyOut of curiosity: do you know who was the most prominent sponsor at #OSI when they refused the #SSPL?Calling the SSPL a "proprietary license" on this ground is a bit misleading. It's not an opensource license if and only if OSI gatekeeping is what qualify #OSS (hint: it doesn't, they always refuse this responsibility): they did not give their bless, because license proliferation, yadda yadda... but they blessed the #CAL license which was much more... "innovative".MongoDB's license is a slightly modified #AGPLv3 but... OSI won't beat the hands that feed them, right?

@quinta @nemobis Put this way, I'd argue that the Italian law is, in fact, superior to the EU law in this case.A good belongs to #Commons only when rules exists that protect it from careless private exploitation. And while for intellectual artifact like software and "digital" contents this should means that when something enter the public domain, its use and derivation should be bound to share-alike rules, it sounds reasonable that for physical good like artistic masterpieces, this means that private profit drawn from a reproduction should contribute to the preservation of the original artwork.I know that @nemobis won't agree though... 😃

@nemobis @quinta That's because they are too much influenced by common-law perspective on "public domain" (and by [US propaganda on the topic](https://sci-hub.st/10.1126/science.162.3859.1243) sold as "Science").Any unprotected good is not in the public domain, but under the rules of the strongest/smartest bully.@quinta

@nemobis 🤣 I don't know... I'm not sure.As you know, I'd be very happy to find a way to keep ALL public domain derivative work... within the commons heritage of humanity.I even wrote the #HackingLicense to achieve this sort of legal effect (and I know you do not like it).

#WTF @mozilla are you serious?#Firefox is going to download #Google Trends for my region whenever I click the addressbar? And the only way to disable this shit is to click on the trends AFTER the download? What if I do not want to inform Google about my existence AT ALL?Which domains such "feature" will connect to? Passing which data?https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-google-trending-search-firefox-address-bar

@grunfink Hi, I managed to build a statically linked #snac with musl (and zlib, curl and openssl). Now I realized that I could deploy it as a FastCGI, but I wonder how I could stop a running process on snac update. Is there a kill switch one could toggle eg by creating an empty file with a specific name under the data dir? Or maybe a version file that is periodically checked by snac processes that exit() when you start a new version?Or maybe something even simpler I'm missing? Also, I've read that snac now support unix domain sockets, but I can't find anything about that in the doc... where should I look?@stefano

@grunfink Thanks, I've seen #snac handles SIGINT by terminating politely.does it save a pidfile somewhere?I can't find any in the data/ dir and I can't find an entry in the server.json

I have to say that the more I look at the @grunfink's #snac source code, the more I like it.

@grunfinkDid you see this PR?https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2/pulls/229On top of that I'm also trying to hack a CGI+Crontab version of snac, but it's not ready yet.

@grunfink Nop, I'll add an example in the following days... :-)As for the CGI+Crontab version, actually it's not that hard to hack something together with minimal changes to existing code and few new source files, but I'm facing a couple of issues that suggests a proper fork:1. the CGI ends up being larger than 6Mb because of curl & openssl that, as far as I can tell, are not needed because all the CGI has to do is to save the proper queue item on the filesystem2. no command handle the global queue aloneThe second issue is quite easy to solve with minimal changes and could help everybody. The first however requires a lot of careful reorganization of the code.On the other hand, I don't like the idea of a fork diverging too much, first because you are doing a great work here so much I think #snac deserves much more visibility. And yet, technically speaking, a fork would make much sense to keep both code bases clean and focused to their use case.
