I’ve been reading posts from a claimed #Tesla person stating that what happened was that #RebeccaTinucci, head of the #Supercharger team, resisted #Elon’s demand to lay off people. Understandable, given the team’s achievements and goals. Elon reacted by laying off her and her entire team. Given how #Twitter / #X has been run, unfortunately I find this believable and it points to bad times ahead for the #EV manufacturer.

Sorry #OllyAlexander, but the #UK #Eurovision entry will end up near the bottom of the pile again. When will the UK realise that sending highly generic pop simply does not work at the competition? It’s surprising and depressing that, given the breadth of talent in the country, they end up doing that, year after year. And are surprised and whiney when the result is the same.

I know Mastodon is the anti-#AI community, or something, but the generated ALT text that @IceCubesApp offers is good enough that I’d be pretty much willing to have it on automatically for any image I post. Even when I do edit it it’s just small changes to highlight something I might want to emphasise. It’s actually shockingly good.

#Mastodon needs more Finns on the core team. If you want to have core infrastructure technology, you need Finns. Think: GSM, SMS, MySQL, Linux, even IRC still to some degree.

@cwebber in fairness, a Mastodon instance could be treated exactly the same way by the Turkish government. Federated instances offer some protection (as they might not comply, but then get blocked) but it’s not perfect either, especially if an account is on a big instance. To go beyond that you’d need something more P2P, like Nostr.

Anybody with stuff built on #Tcl: remember that in Tcl 9.0 the tilde (~) is no longer interpreted as home directory, but you need to use [file home] instead (which has not existed in older versions of Tcl). This is a subtle 'gotcha' that can break many things like configuration file paths (I just got caught by it).

I would expect most companies to be for-profit so as to continue operating. When has Jolla stated AOSP isn't Linux? The OS has sandboxing and a permission model. That’s the Internet for you. Though I have never witnessed that myself. If that is not forthcoming then at least point to evidence where Jolla is attacking AOSP. I have never noticed that to be a significant message from them (as mentioned I was running an AOSP based company), but I'm sure there must be something specific you are referring to.
