@futurebird At the catholic high school i went to, there was the mandated dress code. But i would wear the allowed navy blue sweater.. All year long. It was one of the few ways to assert my individuality. To the point I didnt care how hot it was. All while being knowingly pagan, and unknowingly queer. I was having crisises too. Never fun. Never fun trying to get that across to a confused adult, who prob has guidelines to follow.

@futurebird I remember some heavy booksacks. To this day, I have a weird sound in my left shoulder when I move it a certain way. Tho, I take some responsibility for that. I insisted on being cool, and only wearing one strap. Dont hurt yourself like this, kids.

@futurebird Regular old LCD, black and grey for me. In fact, at 38, i am wearing the same model watch I wore when I was 12. The one i have now needed a battery change last year. But the one 26 years ago just kept going for like 10 or 12 years. I hope in this essay I have demonstrated that I have a stagnant, cheap, but dependable, taste in watches.

@futurebird I sometimes wonder if we lose touch with technology because we either buy into that "I'm old now, and old ppl inherently dont get new tech." Or "I'm old now, and and too tired/ dont want to deal with the new complexity." Or even are scared we'll never catch up or get lost in it. Which can be valid concerns. Plus there is alot to deal with when getting to elder ages. But I also dont think they are absolute truths.

@futurebird I would say something between B and C. It's a term of comparason, in time. So something will always be in the future. There will always be guesses for what that will be. And those will change as the presant changes. And we have things in the past we want the future to be different from.

@futurebird I was more or less fine not going to boarding school. As I am now, i think I would worry about being more limited. Plus, i dont know how I'd do with a roommate back them. There were time I thought it would be interesting. But those were momentary.

@futurebird I did find this interesting. However, I cant see me allowing myself to form conclusions from it. I am trying to give grace for their use of LLMs to make a simulation. However, to my lay ears, that just sounds like 1 step in a wider investigation. I dont know I would trust this until it goes into true human-involved experimentation. I'm not sure why even these experts are choosing to be interviewed without human examination in their methods yet.
