@stux Total noob..... Thanks for hosting this instance... It was easy and fast to have a profile. I'll got you with a coffee in appreciation.I'm going to start a Mastodon instance to organize a special interest.Do you have links that you found valuable to establish this instance?I'm seeking any advice to make this work.... I'm pretty technical with networking but software isn't my thing.Thanks.

@alrs @mastobikes @tk @pla You're dad reached many people sharing his joy in living and his love of cycling. I'm very sorry for this difficult time, I'm sure there is some measure of comfort knowing that he was well loved for the joy he brought to the world.

@claudiom @pla I'm not really sure if the story behind this.... It's vague, I'm guessing a cyclist recently died and people knew him.Regardless, I'll play, I love my bicycle.Apparently, I don't know how to post a photo yet..... Back to the drawing board Wily Coyote.

@claudiom@plaSorry for his loss, long distance cyclists are a different kind of people, there is a essential mind-body connection that is a natural consequence of many hours in the saddle and in the mind. Photo 2019, day 1 of 200. Washington

@alrs Hey Lars, I have a Salsa Marrakesh 59.5 (2019) stranded in Germany....I am forced to sell it because I can't recover it because of covid-19.Do you have any contacts or ideas about finding a buyer? It's a beautiful bike that I built as a commuter and touring bike....I only got to ride 5000 miles. Thanks for any thought you put to this question. ;-)

@alrs Thanks, that's an idea, I checked with bike flights but the cost was ridiculous.... They ship carbon fiber bikes but touring bike are too cheep and too heavy to fly.... Cost of shipping is the cost of the bike.

@stux Hey, stux.... I'll put a Six Pack of designer beers in your boat, I like your instance.I think I read that you're also consulting about Mastodon.... Maybe, hosting instances. I'm very interested in learning more, I have it in my mind to start an instance to host discussions regarding fungus Cultivation.Let me know if you can suggest good articles or advise me on the efficient way to establish an instance.

@MakeAmericaFreeAgain I'm curious about the performance requirements. I have a NAS that runs VMware and a solid but dated Pentium workhorse that I can upgrade memory to 8 Gb. I'm guessing either would serve a small guess list.

@MakeAmericaFreeAgain That's great! Thanks so much for your help! It's very encouraging.Do you have any metric for your guest list compared to the bandwidth? I'm very limited by bandwidth. And, do you know of an Federated profile database that interrogates with Mastodon? I don't even know what key words to Google... It seems reasonable that such an application should exist but if I found it, I didn't recognize it.

@MakeAmericaFreeAgain Do you host more than just Mastodon e.g. videos...etc.And, did you ever consider renting rack space for a private server?

@stux I saw the first Start Wars in 1977 and I was enthralled by the first trilogy. The "franchise" sequels never held my interest. For many in the Generation X the commercialization and merchandising of Star Wars was in Stark contrast to the anti-establishment punk movement. Is it ironic that a fantasy story about a rebel army fighting the Empire, classic David and Goliath, became a franchise, a movie empire, shilling and encoding American Consumerism upon the world.
