Yeah there was a puff piece released last year by some british publication going over the "benefits" of CBDC, one of those benefits was that a employer could theoretically limit what their employee's paycheck could be spent on, basically assuming total control of their finances. Absolutely monstrous, but sold as making people and the economy™ "more efficient".Can't find the link at the moment, will post it if I do, incredible that these peepoo were willing to so brazenly show their hand.

The farms has more tech inclined people and more jobless people angry at it, and being in a polycule with the nerds that run the upstream + the ability to dedicate hours a day to fucking with it make a powerful team.Also, I think the win conditions are different for the antagonists; I doubt the ADL and co. actually find the stormer to be threatening —if anything it's a welcome boogieman, they're probably happy to make a show of decrying it and move on. On the other hand, the Lukes and the Elliots of the world want the documentation of their own embarrassing and occasionally criminal deeds wiped from the internet, so a twitter kerfuffle on it's own can't really be satisfying to them.I hope someone develops a federated forum protocol tbh, I think the overall problem would be more easily managed if split into pieces.

Yeah it's a real pain that .Net doesn't have any kind of RAII mechanism, makes it difficult to implement hard guarantees about resource lifetime. Wish I could just add a finalizer to value types that I can rely on to be called, the dispose pattern is no replacement, it's opt in.I implemented a generic ref count mechanism for a project recently, and it's not —and nor can it be— as robust as I'd like, if you're not thinking you can easily drop a handle as an r-value, so you have to be very formal and make sure all appropriate handles you create are given an explicit variable declared with `using`, or otherwise somehow disposed in a `finally` block.Kinda wish C# had a little more C++ hybrid vigor tbh (variadic generics and type classes would be great too plsnthx)

Naw, I just want opt in destructors and copy/move semantics specifically for value types. Finalizers are fine for object types.I'd never really thought about how interleaving destructed types with finalized types could cause issues, I suppose I can see it at least causing a GC performance issue by transparently adding finalizers (and thus extra GC passes) to objects, and maybe a little confusion in regards to order of finalization. I dunno though, I'd rather have the option than not.

Your emotional response is understandable I suppose.Realize this though, the reason people dunk on cyclists is because of the tribal behavior of self identified cyclists. Many —or at least a very vocal subgroup— treat it as the central point of their identity much like vegans, and this is rather grating. I don't think many people hate bicycles in and of themselves, or people who cycle, but rather hate capital-C Cyclists.Perhaps his post wasn't directed at you or those you've lost. Perhaps it was —people are rather flippant on the internet.
