@MellowMarigold When I was twenty six (I think) , I can remember standing at the graveside of a younger colleague who had died in a car crash. She had been on the way to sign a contract on a new house and was recently married, her whole life ahead of her.As they lowered her coffin into the ground, I had tears running down my face, but they were not for her. They were for me. I envied her and wished I could have been in her place.Depression is shit, but your whole life is not wasted because you’ve had a crappy year. What is missing is perspective. I discussed this with another friend in her fifties a couple of years ago. Bad times are still tough when you’re older, but somewhere the knowledge remains that life goes up and down and this will pass.After lockdown is over, I think I might join a church. I’m a hopeless Christian, but I recognise that in the past, church has been one of the ways I have made friends and also a means of finding other people who need help and structures I can join in to help them. Helping other people, volunteering, is one of the things that helps me feel better about myself. If you have no job, then perhaps you could use some of your time helping others. Depression is shit. Covid is shit. But there is a way out of this and you will find it. As soon as it is possible, stop wallowing in your pain and go and do something.

@Icarus_girl96 I don’t much like the word transphobic either, mainly because it is applied way more often to women who are fighting for their rights than to those who despise trans people. All these accusations are a sign that the person using them has no valid argument for their own position, and therefore has to resort to ad hominem attacks. Ironically they are the very definition of bigoted.

@Li_Chi @LaylaAlexandrovna All mine will be vaccinated. I trust that the Norwegian government are taking a careful approach. I am also aware that young people can spread the virus and put older people at risk.Pretty insulting to assume those of us who are taking up the vaccine have no critical thinking skills.

@Li_Chi @LaylaAlexandrovna I agree it’s new technology and we should be cautious. But every time new technology is introduced, there are fears, some of which reach the point of scaremongering. It’s a difficult time as we are experiencing a pandemic and there has been a worldwide response in a way that has never occurred before. I’m not sure whether it would have been ultimately less harmful to run its course. I think there was possibly an argument for doing that, given that the virus hasn’t created a huge wave of deaths among the young and healthy (unlike, for example the Black Death and Spanish flu).That said, sometimes in times of crisis, huge moves forward occur and at a much faster pace than in normal times. The advances in technology during WW2 have had a huge impact, much of it positive. We will only be able to assess this with hindsight. I am concerned about my daughter having this vaccination because I understand there might be some effect on uterine health and fertility which we cannot yet predict. But there may be similar problems with COVID if it is left to run rampant. I have mentioned the possibilities to my daughter, but will leave the decision to her. In the event that there are problems, we will deal with them as they occur. All of life, every decision we take holds risks. This is one I am willing to take and I haven’t taken it lightly.

@LaylaAlexandrovna @Li_Chi @Val_Kyrie Yes, the government reviewed it, just as they reviewed the reported side-effects of the AZ vaccine and concluded they were problematic enough to stop using that. Obviously it’s new technology. There are risks with any progress, but that doesn’t make it inherently bad. You’re using a computer and probably use a mobile phone. Remember all the scare-mongering that we would all end up with brain cancer? It didn’t happen.We can’t rule out side effects from this new vaccine. There were unforeseen side effects following the mass vaccination against swine flu, and this vaccination uses science that is less well established. It still comes down to an assessment of whether it’s safer to vaccinate than to allow the pandemic to run its course. We’ll know in the future whether the decisions made during the pandemic were helpful or harmful, but scaremongering over new scientific and technological advancements is nothing new.

As you can see, he’s not only sporting a creepy grin, but is pointing a taser at the camera in a manner that can only be seen as threatening.

@AileenWuornos @ArtistBristol @AthenasWrench2 @LaylaAlexandrovna vis-a-vis the smile, I tend to look a bit insane like that if I try to smile for a photo and keep my eyes open so they look bigger. My eyes are fairly small, and when I smile, they can almost close. I’ve always wished they were bigger, so occasionally make the attempt not to close them so much. It results in a maniac smile. So it may be that he’s trying to make himself attractive and feminine and is unable to tell. Many of these men post selfies and presumably tell themselves they look attractive or pass, when to all of us, it’s perfectly obvious they do neither.
