@jeff I think you lucked out. Having to reset a fair share of rooms in my time. the walls/windows/ceiling is still intact. electrical conduits are not pulled from walls/ceiling. Might smell of death.. but that goes away after carpet replacement.

@jeff If the smell somehow penetrated the wood.. then it's sand and re-varnish time. hopefully no rot.

Not dead.. Just RL went into 6th gear. Which means stupid amount of money being made. but no time. This is only temporary. I got DIY microphone projects, DIY lighting projects. and even a game review or two. Blogs not going anywhere kids.

@tilton as cool as it was dealing with long distance fees from telecom made it difficult for users not within the area code to enjoy fidonet

To me, newer compressions and newer image formats should be tried. They are important. Because not everyone has a fiber level connection to the net. You want graphic artists to deliver content at 4k but continue to embrace standards that frankly existed when the AmigaOS was still alive in the 90's. That's a little insane.

approaching almost a year of running my own instance. I will say it's way different than my first try here on Mastodon. I did get the question "Does Mastodon have Reaver Instances" answered with quickness! Hooo! But there are other instances that were blocked on the big instances because i think the humor is a little savage. Overall.. Still better then Musk. And not jumping to Bluesky despite getting invite codes every other day.

@milo It just feels like someone generating artificial scarcity in the hopes of winning the social network crowd.

It's interesting to leave "X" and find out the level of call-outs and furry drama drops to.. maybe 1-2 posts?

The other side of the Great Wall of Fediblock certainly has more humor going for it too! Although not a big political person. my first time on mastodon sucked due to the politics on how they almost viewed anyone starting a website should be regulated by a committee. Second time with my own instance. way better!

masto(dot)art reminds me of Furaffinity all over again. Some place where everyone kinda flocked to because you know. It's good to be with like-minded people. Until the admin goes nuclear and literally tells people that they must do next. Most don't listen. Perhaps due to lack of technical knowledge. Or just plain lack of caring about themselves or the environment they work in. But some do! In which case, they fire up their own instance. Which honestly is the best way of going about it. You don't let others dictate who is on your friends list.

Is it messed up, I actually want AI-SEO to overrun the search engines? Seems nihilistic sure. But you have people literally gloating about how they're waging war on websites to attract the most amount of attention. Which those sites would in turn deploy the same AI. Monkey A programs robot to throw turds at Monkey B. Which Monkey B proceeds with building a bigger turd mountain for robot to throw back. Eventually, this would make search engines useless. Because it's all crap. Which i'm sure Google will say "But we're monkey C. We are going to program a robot to fight the robot which fights the robot." I look forward to the grey goo implosion.

@getimiskon The only bummer about it all is that it may drive people away from being online all together. They'll get to a hardware review site. Assume everyone has the same article. Logoff. May be a bit of a dark time. But I think people are going to look deeper. Which is where home sites are going to shine.

@arcanicanis The whole smaller web/webring ideology is something I kinda look forward to. And yes, google accelerated this by demanding content. Just like they did to YouTube. It makes me chuckle.

The last convention made me emotionally numb. Not depressed, or angry. Perhaps it's just the state of society where social etiquette was drop-kicked right out the door. Seeing the things that were done to others makes me re-evaluate the things that I buy. Perhaps my money is spent better elsewhere. Also glad the next convention I've booked is a pinball and vintage arcade repair. Something that is reasonably far away from furries.
