One of my favorite little history facts is that the Confederacy had to redesign their second flag because when they actually hung it on a pole, you couldn’t see the colorful parts, so it just looked like a flag of surrender

Here’s the flag, the canton (a fancy flag word that just means: the square part) was in the upper left, closest to the pole. When hung, it was almost completely obscured, showing what appeared to be a white flag of surrender.“graphic design is my passion” -1861

The ultimate irony is that the white portion was included as a symbol of white supremacy, but soldiers hated it because it a) got dirty really fast and b) looked like a flag of truce. So, they would often cut off the white part in the field. Nothing says dedication to your cause like defacing you’re national flag because it’s too hard to clean

I wear out parts on revolvers extremely quickly. Already wore out the hand-and-spring AND the hammer cam on my 1851 Colt Navy. 😬Luckily, both parts together are less than $20Might be time to upgrade to a higher quality manufacturer 🤔
