Anyone else having problems with this new bullshit from the Guardian?I'm not a nerd, so I don't even really know what 'personalised advertising' actually means. In the 40 odd years I've been using computers, I've never once clicked on a news site advert, so I'm not much use to advertisers anyway. However, I suspect their explanation is disingenuous, and their '118 partners' would be expecting to load my computer with cookies that would track my every move - like Facebook.Am I right or wrong?

It's not often you get to see history practically halted in its tracks, but here is a rare case.On the left is John Constable's 1821 painting, 'The Haywain', and on the right, is my picture of the same location from 200 years later. Willy Lott's House is probably the least altered part of the scene.#Photography #Landscape #Art #History #Psychogeography

Just look at this amazing roof structure. This is Great Coxwell Barn - near Faringdon, in Oxfordshire . It was built in about 1300 to serve the farming interests of a monastery many miles away. One can only marvel at the woodworking skills of those medieval carpenters, over 700 years ago.William Morris was so impressed he took most of his visitors to nearby Kelmscott Manor to see it.#Photography #History #Architecture

One from the archives today. It was taken in the mid-1970s from the upstairs window of my parents' house. Shot on Ektachrome, but with no filters or fancy effects in those days. All I've done in digitising it is remove some of the surface dust. The block of flats on the right is Dawson's Heights - a controversial, late-modernist, social housing development, which had only just been built when this was taken.#FensterFreitag #Photography #Sunset #Architecture

I spent a happy hour or so yesterday, in the sunshine, picking blackberries. My haul was over a kilo, but it's not even the end of July yet. Blackberries in mid-July? Is this normal, or is it yet another sign of climate change?#Photography #Harvest #Gardening #Fruit

We have some walnut trees in our community orchard and, every year at about this time, I pick some unripe ones and pickle them for Christmas.I love them, and it's a fairly simple process, but you do have to soak them in brine for about two weeks. The freshly prepped ones are on the left. The ones on the right have been in brine for a couple of days.#Photography #Gardening #Cooking #Harvest

On the left is the entrance to the Arsenale in Venice, as captured by me in 2024. On the right, is a remarkably similar scene, painted by Canaletto in 1732.The Venice Arsenal gave its name to all stores of weapons and ordnance around the world, but it was originally created as Europe's first ship-building 'factory', in around 1100. The version we can see today is actually the 'New' Arsenal, built in 1320.#Photography #Travel #Venice #History #Architecture #MeerMittwoch
