While maybe not exactly Unobtainium yet, these #Acorn #Electron Plus 1 expansions are getting hard to come by, so happy to've landed one.Condition unknown, so we'll see - eventually. I have a little too many projects running at the moment, so for now it just goes to storage... 😬#retrocomputing #newarrival

Trying to get some kind of practical usage out of an old ASRock>ION 330 "nettop" PC I have lying around. Specs are Intel Dual Core Atom 330 at 1.6GHz, NVIDIA ION GPU and 4 gigs of RAM.Conclusion is that no matter what I install on it, from #!++ to Haiku, ... it's fine, until you launch a web browser and then it's completely unusable.Using these and simpler machines would be completely viable if only information could be accessed in, or interactions had in, more lightweight forms rather than being confined to bloated web representations. Like ̶g̶o̶p̶h̶e̶r̶ Gemini, nntp, irc - or even just plain old HTML with focus on content rather than visual design. How can it *not* be possible to get a usable experience out of 1.6GHz and 4GB RAM? It boggles the mind.#oldmanyellsatcloud

WTF, #Ubuntu has started spamming about some kind of subscription service I guess they want to hook people on, in the output messages of every "apt upgrade" done. 🤪I was on my last leg with Ubuntu anyway, but seriously?!

Oh, great the #Ubuntu people are now working hard to remove ... no, er, wait ... MOVE the spam message a bit 🤪 and then on a command to - wait for it - "opt out". 😡Whatever, just finished backing up my home and data directories - you're friggin' right "Ubuntu Pro APT integration is a bit much". 👋https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-advantage-tools/+bug/1992026 #aBitTooMuch

Well, that #BlueChip drive CPU was a right pain to get out. Had difficulties sucking through the solder from the top layer. But after 2 rounds of resoldering/desoldering all the pins, I was finally able to pull the 6502 out - and it looks like I didn't damage any pads or tracks in the process. 😅And yes, this is one dead CPU.#retrocomputing #repair

@piggo The CPU was suspect, not proven bad until it was out.But either way, I do not actually recommend the leg-cutting method except as a last resort.1) I find that it's actually a lot more work because you have to snip, then work simultaneously - pin after pin - on both sides of the board (pliers on one side, soldering iron on the other), in an awkward position.2) I find that it's easy to damage the board or lift pads when cutting, because the sidecutters put a force on the leg when cutting it.YMMV.

@eiZen I still have very strong memories of watching that as a kid, and being totally drawn in by it. Had tried for many years to recall what it was called but failed to identify it until you posted about it last year!

JFC, I'll take a slew of half baked 2000s era Under Construction 🚧 websites any day to this utterly barren internet wasteland of search results that are machine generated copies of other sites that are machine generated copies of other sites that are machine generated to only appear in my search in order to attempt to sell me something.

This gorgeous, futuristic looking DR-202 Data Recorder from Sanyo just landed. 🤩Sold as spares or repair and the power plug was cut off which is never a good sign, but visually it's in great condition!(Also came in the original box, which I'm actually not particularly happy about since I really don't want to keep old cardboard around but somehow feel a pressure to do when items arrive like this. At least it's not moldy or smelling of deep basement, like some of them are.) 😅#NewArrival #RetroComputing

I just canNOT watch those videos that for some reason cut out every single natural pause in the speech. WTF's the deal with that?!After 3 minutes tops, I'm screaming for air and my eyes are bleeding from jump cut over exposure.

Have this old MacBook A1226 from 2007 in a drawer. Wondered what to do with it and tried to install #HaikuOS on it. Works surprisingly well, except there is no sound which is a bit of a bummer. #BeOS

Interestingly, the sound recorder is able to record sound from the MacBook's microphone - so that device is recognized. But no playback. :blobsad:
