#1 Autistic autism experts are needed badly. Until we showed up, there were only neurotypical experts available. Just look around you and see how well they have done in understanding us and making the world more accepting and kind place for our kind. Read some research about how our health, employment etc. are doing. Still think we are not needed? Also, when have you seen an NT expert doubt their expertise even when we can plainly see that there is none? Why won't you say anything to them? 2/

They also start out with far better visibility, neurotypical connecting abilities and established organization while we struggle to create all that from scratch. Advertising budget for small businesses/self employed people typically ranges between minimal and none. Still, we need to find clients just like any other businesses, or go out of business. Would you prefer that? No? 3/

#2 I hate to tell you, that autism experts are mainly hired by (neurotypical led) autism organizations or healthcare facilities operating under outdated pathology paradigm. They are usually nentistic to core. In other words, they will NOT hire us. The only way for us to be full time activists is to make a living from it. Usually, among other fun stuff, that also includes being labelled as "greedy businesspeople" while nentistic organizations get to be saintly nonprofits 2/

Then give us a chance to survive. We aren't asking you to kiss the ground beneath our feet or support us personally in any way. Heck, you don't even have to personally like us. Just please don't attack us or blame us for being "commercial" when we are only trying to survive in the only way that is available for us. If you can't tolerate us, block us, but please do so quietly instead of telling us to shut up and go away. It's essentially telling us to close the business and stop activism. 4/

Our choices are to heavily utilize free opportunities to gain visibility or go out of business (including activism).So please. Try to understand that we are doing the best we can, usually with minimal resources in very difficult conditions. Your support would be awesome. But it's ok if you can't stand us. Just try not to actively add to our burden or tell us to stop being activists. There exist many who do find our work valuable, and there's a lot of work to be done. Thank you. đ /5

@JoBlakely @Fizzfizzpopop @ScottSoCal @pathfinder @actuallyautistic I suppose "nobody will like you" can be some sort of appeal to our insecurity and fear of abandonment when they see something about us that they envy. A promise, that if we shrink ourselves, the herd will tolerate us.To me, having a couple of friends who truly like me is plenty. For a while, I was all alone in the world, and that was okay as well. Definitely far less painful than shrinking myself in hope of being tolerated.

I didn't panic but continued just to be myself.Universe hates vacuum. I knew that if I just continued to be myself and exercised patience, in time right kind of people would start showing up.I was right. It is incredibly toxic, in fact, downright dangerous, to try to please and see acceptance of anyone who *might* tolerate you.
