And I remember before digital music really exploded, there were those hidden tracks on CDs where if you left it playing it would eventually play the hidden track after a minute of silence. Those are really neat! I wonder if that kind of surprise can be recaptured in digital music distribution.

@grainloom I think one has to take into account the source of the 'kawaii.' Girls who do it deliberately for themselves (things like subculture fashion, lolita, etc) have said they use 'kawaii' as reclaiming an innocent girlhood/self-expression in a culture that wants women of a certain age to behave a certain way (part of that is being 'motherly' as well! the expectation of submission comes in many forms.)

@Canageek I tried yellow watermelon as a kid and didn't like it. I tried red watermelons when I was a bit older and liked those. But also I haven't had yellow watermelon since, so it's possible my tastes for watermelon in general changed.
