@Justwanttobreathe darling, they don't have sufficient "oppressed" identifiers to proclaim their suffering; you need at least be a member of several approved of groups to actually be able to testify and be listened to by current feminist standards. Just being a straight or lesbian woman, or for that matter, a woman of a minority group who is either, is simply NOT enough. Experiences are disregarded in lieu of the meritocracy of oppression. That is the conclusion I reached. Unfortunate, really.

@Justwanttobreathe well, in my opinion, it's attributed to the meritocracy I was talking about. Every marginalised group you are part of mollifies some of the hostility to your existence. Therefore, straight women–and in this case I assume we are referring to biological women; who are popularly referred to as "cis-het"–are the baseline for the female suffering. They are at the bottom of the bottom, and apparently somehow they are shielded from varieties of oppression directed against other groups. Don't even try to understand; I don't—it's just the circulating consensus.

@Eggster @AthenasWrench2 this precisely describes my experience. I couldn't go along with it. I could not hand over my identity, and reality in silence; I'm not an idiot. I don't deny the existence of trans people, or their dignity as human beings, but with all due respect their category is different and separate from biological females. The lived experience can not be denied. The distinct socialisation and oppression each undergoes are different from one another, and should not be conflated. We're expected to deny our own logic, and go along with this nonsense like cattle, and sadly, yes, people are going along with it—women are going along with it. Anyhow, yeah thanks, I'm not getting hoodwinked. Next.

@juneseedI do not wear makeup either. By other *women* I'm regarded as a sexless, timid damsel that needs to be ushered in the realm of femininity. One day bending over backwards to satisfy men's impossible expectation will break their spines, and they'll end up paraplegic, so maybe watch it. @Justwanttobreathe why would you be blocked by half of spinster? 😂

@ObligateSpinster Darling, a colleague of mine once told me my complexion was inconsistent (probably due to eczema, and 2 hour-long transportation to university), and that it was unacceptable for a girl to present herself like this. So yeah, wiiiiild.

@Justwanttobreathe @juneseed It is not always the case though. Perfecting the use of makeup and how certain cosmetics agree or disagree with one's complexion, and the technique of producing certain "looks" can be somewhat artistic, and requires skill. Some women derive gratification from that, with the added benefit of appearing as they'd like to appear. I personally believe that it feeds to sexist beauty standards, as I've never seen a man prep himself for hours to appear aesthetically decent for his female partner–but if she truly does it for herself in order to boost her self esteem (perhaps she deems herself inferior to natural beauties), I don't see any harm in it. I have always thought that makeup is a form of deception to myself (I don't care for others) and that I can not tolerate.

Hello, spinsters. Could anyone kindly point me to online radical feminism books/articles to get myself started on? I live in a country where books written in English are rare. If you're familiar with any radfem books/resources in Arabic too, they're welcome; though I doubt they exist. Thanks in advance :)

The bias in the media nowadays is astounding. Only palatable representations of taboo or controversial topics relating to human rights are lauded and celebrated. Ironically these tasteful, and mild depictions tend to compromise the messages they are supposed to deliver, almost entirely at times. Take for example feminist representation in the wildly popular SKAM (a Norwegian TV series released in a unique format of real time clips and accompanying social media entries)–the paragon of feminism and its main advocate in SKAM is Noora, a stunning Norwegian beauty who believes in equality between men and women. Nevertheless, it soon transpires that her feminist beliefs are only superficial, as she sadly completely changes tone when her entire season revolves around her *romance* with a misogynistic playboy.Noora makes some good points about female struggles, and self image issues, but repeatedly fails to confront or properly criticise her toxic love interest's abusive behaviour. For starters William (her LI) brands his "conquests" through handing them especial sweaters, specifically designed to signify the girls he sleeps with in order to be paraded around at school. At some point William tells Noora's friend that she isn't even worthy to be considered a trophy of his (which he later justifies as means of driving her away, due to his lack of interest in her) after having slept with her; blackmails Noora into a date by threatening to expose his attraction to her to her previously mentioned friend (then proceeds to gaslight her about her negative stance on his manipulative behaviour); treats her like absolute shit when his brother comes into the picture (he has reasonable concerns, which he refuses to discuss with Noora as normal people do; therefore, arguably putting her in danger); once Noora is sexually assaulted by William's brother, William EXPLODES and goes batshit about *her* having done that to *him*; makes a spectacle, and gets high on the filthy fumes of his enormous ego.Oh yeah, he also casually stalks her throughout the first two seasons, remarks on how hot she is when she's wearing a top her nipples are visible through (she immediately becomes uncomfortable and starts covering up), and refuses to contact Noora after she flees from London because she (a sexual assault survivor) was vulnerable and afraid to testify against his brother. It takes a fucking letter penned by her friend telling him that she loves him, and that he should come back to Norway if he truly loved her.I'm sure I'm forgetting instances of more unsettling behaviour, but those are what I recall at the moment. The most disturbing of all is that SKAM'S writer is a woman. Julie Andem is said to have devoted most of her creative energy into Noora's season (it has lengthier episode durations, and the highest number of episodes); she also lent the actress portraying Noora many of her high school wardrobe items, and stated that season 2 (Noora and William's *grand* romance) was why she wanted to make SKAM in the first place. It is commonly joked about that Juile Andem is basically self-inserting through Noora. I can not believe, and I can not fathom that a woman would use the powerful platform she was given to do this to other females–in this case teenage girls (the target demographic). I would rather that she utilised her show to write a trashy, irrelevant romance than write an insulting depiction of feminism masquerading as revolutionary representation to an impressionable demographic. I'm so upset with her, honestly. How can we move forward if we keep betraying ourselves like this? How can women themselves perpetuate harmful stereotypes they spend their lives trying to escape?! This is fucking unbelievable! If Noora's story were written as a tragedy of folly & naïveté, and how girls can be entraped into toxic relations with males then I would be delighted with it as a cautionary tale, but NO–this is intended unironically as a romantic tale of true love (they end up together, you see ;)))))For the record SKAM is a massive cultural phenomenon; it has at least 6 adaptations that I know of(France, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, the US), with little to no variation in the plot; therefore, its impact on the younger demographic is not to be underestimated. I have seen the amount of rave Noora (and her relationship with Willian) get. I know for a fact that girls are forgoing, and actively avoiding tallying the alarming facts surrounding this deficient portryal of feminism, because Noora is very beautiful, and her and William look so very pretty together :))) I keep asking myself: had Noora not been portrayed by such a beautiful actress, or had she been a woman of colour, would the calibre of positive responses be the same; more importantly, if Noora were aggressively vocal, and uncompromising would she have been as highly celebrated, or would she have been a loud, contemptuous bitch who needs to take a chill pill, and sit down?
