@Haleakalacrater I had to qualify annually in the Marines at 100, 200, and 300 yards with an M16. Both slow fire and rapid fire. I shot Sharpshooter (mid-level) twice, and Expert 4 out of 6 years. I even had several 'Possibles' (10 out of 10 bullseyes in a rapid fire round) It's possible with the right gear, training, and discipline, but not easy. Saying it wasn't just someone who bought their first weapon last week, if they were that far away.

@Haleakalacrater Still not trivial, especially with a person moving as they speak maybe 24" side to side. I was shooting at 12 inch bullseyes at all those distances, and they politely stayed motionless. And slow fire was 1 round per minute. Rapid fire is 10 rounds in one minute. For rifle Qualification in USMC.

@Haleakalacrater Def. You can do it visually on a known course (aim higher on the bullseye - and all USMC ranges are functionally identical), or know from experience how to adjust your front sight for each range distance. Not super-practical to adjust sights in highly variable real-world conditions when things are highly kinetic. You just know what your weapon does through practice.
